Info and article is below. You can see why Californians want to secede and it is beyond a joke for some of us. We are in the top states for the amount we give to Federal Government. There were two ahead of us...NY and Connecticut, but I think we passed both them up which means we give more than any other state to federal government. But when it comes time to get something back, Bush absolutely hates it (as did his asshole father as well). We are the very last state to get back from federal govt although we put in the most. The very last. There are 2600 miles to the Calif. levee system. It feeds water to the California Southland as well as the farms and ranches in the San Joaquin Valley affecting the lives and livelihoods of nearly 25 million people. An earthquake or a flood from snow melt or even more rain could cause a catastrophic tragedy to not only Calif. but the entire nation as a whole. This weekend GW Bush in his infinite dimwittedness made the unconscionable decision not to fund repairs to the levees even with the experience of Katrina and New Orleans still fresh on every ones minds. A break in this levee system would send millions of tons of toxic materials into the drinking water of Southern Calif. as well as flooding farms, homes and businesses in the San Joaquin Valley. For the preventive costs of few billion dollars GW Bush is willing to gamble with the welfare of this nation once again. Funding denied for state levees OFFICIAL FINDS STORM RESPONSE ADEQUATE BUT SAYS OLD INFRASTRUCTURE NEEDS REPAIR http://www.mercurynews.com/mld/mercurynews/news/local/states/california/northern\ _california/14367541.htm Because of him, we had the wildfires because he wasn't willing to give us a dime of our own money back. We knew it was a hazard. Gray Davis told him about the beetle infestation. Davis called and called and the bill sat on Bush's desk. He approved it a few hours before we had the wild fires begin (he waited till we were in the wildfire season, even though Davis asked long before that time -- bill sat on his desk half a year) which destroyed much of our beautiful Redwoods. Not that he gives a damn as he auctions it off to republican polluters or loggers. We really hate him here (unless we are redneck transplants without a clue) and he has always hated us here (as did his father)...I'm not sure if Arnold is getting it or not. Yesterday he was talking about gas price gouging. Gas today is at $3.07. It is always higher here -- but we have no idea why. My opinion - we should tell Mobil, Shell and all the other oil corporations that are divvying up the Middle East while our kids fight in their private wars funded by our money for THEIR PROFIT -- go to hell...California will use Citgo and bikes and rollerblades, hybrids and small foreign cars from now on. We don't mind putting money into federal govt. Most of us in my area here wish our money had gone to fix levees in New Orleans instead of a war of lies, but we have no say. When Bush said it was now his capital, he meant it. He is always all over his father for wasting all that money (which was our money). What he means is that his father did not go ahead and use our money for the corporations to take the oil and contracts in Iraq (and Iran/Syria) and build permanent bases. If there is anyone out there who still believes 9/11 or terrorism or WMD had anything to do with these wars, you don't deserve to be an American because you're dumber than dirt. If anyone out there thinks there is not price gouging by the oil corporations, you need to turn in your passport.
