Guest guest
Hi Bonnie, I have 5 kids ( 4 are now young adults, 22, 20, 18 and 16), youngest is 11. The last 4 were born at home with a Certified Nurse Midwife, she was in attendance for all 4 births. Now depending on what state you live in and what your current laws are...the answers to your questions will vary. When my last 4 were born at home, I got a legal parchment piece of paper from the Midwife, and all I had to do was send a copy of those to the state office in Jefferson City ( I'm in Missouri) and they sent back " birth certificates " for the kids. Ones that look pretty much like anyone else's. SO NO WORRIES there with idetification. Your second question is much more complex depending on your state laws and whether or not you choose to follow them. In Missouri, when I had my first homebirth and my second homebirth my CNM was working with an MD who was on standby. Then his insurance company said stop working with the CNM or else we'll cancel your insurance. So she was dropped by that MD. By the time I had the third homebirth things had changed a little bit but Ruth, our midwife, was able to find a doctor to secretly work with her. By the time I had the fourth homebirth, laws in Missouri were getting very strict, in an effort to shut down home birth and midwifery for good. At that time, IF a CNM could find a Doctor to work with them and be on standby the birth had to take place within 50 miles of that medical doctors office ( this was the part of the law that just about did midwifery in, in Missouri because we are such a rural state that hardly anyone lived within 50 miles of the MD). So we had that birth " illegally " ..because we were about 120 miles from the MD's office. ;-) So do what you will with the laws that try to govern free choice ;-) Hope this helps. I'm open to any questions and or discussions around this topic...all kids are healthy and happy. The three older boys are bodybuilders...the last 4 never had shots and never even had any babyfood out of a jar...I breastfed until they were two and started eating food we ate... Have fun with life! ~Amy~ in Missouri -- In , " unwieldingdreams " <unwieldingdreams wrote: > > I would like more info about home birth. Guest guest
Hi Bonnie, I planned a homebirth for my second. I was an HBAC (home birth after C-sec). I live in PA. Here homebirth is not legal nor is it illegal. The midwives sends for a birth certificate just like a hospital so don't worry. I did end up tranferring to a hospital and ended with another C-sec. It doesn't happen very often. It also wasn't very traumatic at all. Everything went very smoothly with the birth. How the hospital treated my newborn was a different story. Anyway, even with two c-sec I would do a homebirth again if I got decided to get pregnant. Feel free to contact me if you have any questions. I also worked as a doula and is getting certified to be a childbirth educator. YVonne > > > -- In , " unwieldingdreams " > <unwieldingdreams@> wrote: > > > > I would like more info about home birth.
