Guest guest
Hi All, My father has always had low blood pressure - so much so that they've never recorded something so low (is 60/40 legit)? I know the 60 number was accurate but I do forget the bottom number. Regardless, I am looking for some sort of natural cure to help out. We add salt to his meals whenever we can and we also know that there are other substantial issues that he has to deal with, so when I say " natural " it really would be best if it's some sort of food item or something easy to take. He's dealing with nerve damage (from an accident over 60+ years ago that nearly killed him but over the years has made him weaker), he's not an eater to begin with, he's also dealing with challenged muscle control. He broke his knee two months or so ago and this had led up to an overall decline. He can no longer get in a wheelchair himself (let alone with help) because he begins to pass out due to his low blood pressure. They now get him on a " tilt table " for therapy and take his pressure every 5 minutes.allowing him to get up to about 45 degrees. At that point he gets dizzy and his pressure continues to decline etc., we believe it's because he's getting very little movement/exercise which is making his circulatory system lethargic/lazy and when they try to move him all the blood rushes to his feet. I'm sorry for the run-on here but my father is very dear to me and he has not yet given up the fight (he's 79) and I would like to try and find some way to help with the blood pressure so that we can get him into his wheelchair. At that point he may be able to come home (after some of the other issues are figured out.loose bowels/colostomy etc.) Does anybody have any ideas, suggestions etc., other than salt (and if this is the case - how much and how often and how to increase if needed) to help him out. Everyone is amazed that with all that he has gone through, that he has lived this long. I would be grateful for anything feedback that anybody my have. Thank you. Guest guest
Lisa, it is agonizing to see one's dear one suffer so much. i know of one thing that is very helpful in increasing the blood pressure. what you need to do is to get water melon seeds. give him ten seeds first thing in the morning to eat. he must chew them nicely. then again in the evening give him ten seed to eat. water melon seeds taken regularly for a long time do help a lot in building blood pressure. as for the quantity of salt, you can only add to the limit that he can tolerate in his food. at the most you can give him salted lemon water twice a day as an addition. hope this helps. pari , " Lisa " <blacksands wrote: > > Hi All, > > > > My father has always had low blood pressure - so much so that they've never > recorded something so low (is 60/40 legit)? Guest guest
Hello, In my opinion, to promote blood circulation would be beneficial for him. Can he receive massage? Can he eat black pepper in his meals? Guest guest
Thank you all for some of your great suggestions. We actually talked about massage yesterday and I think he's up for that - because he knows at the very least it'll feel good. I'll also be looking up the VISCUM ALB-Q and also watermelon seeds (having never heard that before).I hope he will be open to chewing on some of those. At the minimum at least it's only about 10 seeds twice a day.and perhaps after a couple days there will be improvement enough for him to continue. I am SO VERY THANKFUL that I found this .thank you so much! Guest guest
Hi, do some research for black licorice. Licorice can raise blood pressure. And, not knowing his other health issues or medication, remember to make sure no downside to his trying it. I took some capsules at one time and after some time felt like maybe my blood pressure might be high. Never had high BP but just felt like it might be. So looked up the herbs/supplements I was taking and found out about licorice. Let us know if you find something that helps! Guest guest
Thank you for your feedback. I need to check in with him to find out how he did on his tilt table today (and his blood pressure/dizzy spells if any). After some careful consideration, I started him on taking his multi-vitamin once again (which he hadn't had in the 2+ months that he's been in " care " ) and I've also had him take EmergenC for the extra vitamin C, B vitamins and pantothenic acid. The pantothenic acid I understand can possibly reverse low blood pressure in and of itself, so I'm keeping my fingers crossed. I do know that he was able to get up to 50 degrees on the tilt table without dizziness and that was the day after he took both the multi-vitamin and the EmergenC. Without jumping to conclusions, and of course having to wait for the weekend to pass us by (no physical therapy on weekends) I'll be finding out some feedback tomorrow so I'll keep you posted. Unlike some of the other suggestions, the licorice might be something that I could " add " without too much of a complaint from him. The multi-vitamin is a child's chewable (easy to take) and the EmergenC of course, being in powdered form is easily added to his OJ. So, I'm keeping my fingers crossed that we are starting on a course of improvement with this particular phase of recovery: getting him so he can get upright with no dizziness (or low blood pressure) so we can then start on some upper body PT to strengthen him once again to be mobile enough to get in/out of his wheelchair. Thanks so much for everyone's thoughts, kindness and feedback. I do feel that we are on the right course and it's a wonderful feeling at that! :-) Lisa _____ On Behalf Of castleboys3 Saturday, September 13, 2008 12:47 PM Re: Low blood pressure " cure " Hi, do some research for black licorice.
