Guest guest
I know that someone in this group can advise me on this. I would like to get off of Nexium. I have been on it for a few years now. I'm puzzled what causes the problems that I have. It doesn't seem to matter what I eat, I always will get heartburn before the day is out. I have had the test ran where they put you to sleep and use the camera to look down my throat and was told nothing is wrong there. Just as long as I take the Nexium all is good. Do I have too much acid? or not enough? someone please explain this. I love this group. Always helpful info.

I am looking for alternative methods for controlling each of these and would prefer not taking the Nexium, MaxAir, Nasonex, and Asmanex, I keep the head of my bed elevated, avoid caffeine, soda's, chocolate, tomato and citrus products and anything spicy. So far things are ok, but I would prefer an alternative treatment. Blessings, Cynthia
Guest guest
You might have not enough stomach acid. There is a test you can have to find out. It involves swallowing a pill sized meter on a string and pulling it out 15 minutes later. Sounds sort of gruesome, but nothing compared to the test you already had. See a naturopath for the test. Or an MD member of ACAM. You could try a change of diet. I recommend Peter D'Adamo's Blood Type Diet or Genoptype Diet. And eat only whole natural, organic foods. Monitor what you eat to catch food allergies. You will probably need to try these things without taking the Nexium. Are you taking any other medications? Your pain could be a side effect of something. Or a rebound effect from the Nexium. Guest guest
Most of the time Acid reflux is caused by too much. I have had that as well I had to use Apple cider vineager that helped I also used a product from Blue poppy called gastroquell took that for about 6 months and then did not need it any more. Hope that helps DP , " jlbfitts " <jlbfitts wrote: > > I know that someone in this group can advise me on this. I would like > to get off of Nexium. I have been on it for a few years now. Guest guest
My 13 year old son has acid reflux (GERD). We've been eating fewer acidic foods and using digestive enzymes. Stress seems to be what makes his act up. I've also gotten good results with bladderwrack and I give him an ounce or two of aloe vera juice every day. Other natural approaches are: (If you have any health conditions or use medications, be sure to check for contraindications before using the following herbs.) Licorice Digestive enzymes Hydrochloric acid Aloe vera Bladderwrack Marshmallow Slippery elm Hope you find this helpful, Michelle http://www.HolisticMenopause.com
Guest guest
I received an answer to this post in my personal mail box which was forwarded from my web box and I responded but it bounced so I copied my answer and include it here I must change my email address so this doesn't happen again, it's not the first time and I like to be able to answer right back. Um, don't you mean 'neutralizing the bad flora,' you want the good guys left to do their job. That's the problem with antibiotics they kill them all both bad and good. I truly believe that probiotics do more good frankly than a lot of prescriptions. Iren e , " Cynthia " <sinsayre wrote: > > Jlbfitts wrote: I know that someone in this group can advise me on this. Guest guest
YIKES! We are not doctors, and cannot tell if your problems are caused by too much acid or, which is more common, too little. In either case we have to wonder why your stomach is trying so hard to break down your food and not succeeding. Nexium may relieve your symptoms but ultimately it makes your digestion worse. Without acid, how will you break down your food? Have you ever tried to improve your digestion with digestive enzymes and/or probiotics? It really cannot hurt, UNLESS you have an active bleeding ulcer. That is as far as I know the only counter-indication for using digestive enzymes. Are you ready for some serious reading? I have a few websites for you here. Some are commercial, some not. Detailed information on the many benefits of enzymes can be found at this website: http://enzymestuff.com The best information on probiotics is http://natren.com but a cheaper place to buy their product is http://vitacost.com Now you may not feel like spending a pile of money on a bottle of enzymes here, and several bottles of probiotics there. Quality supplements can get pricy. The following suggestion is an economical and risk-free way of trying effective but gentle enzymes PLUS an excellent probiotic for the large intestine PLUS a top quality Acidophilus PLUS a whole wild food for the body and a cell-wall removed version of that same food that really feeds the brain. Honesty moment: this is my business, so if that offends you, stop reading here. The recommendation is for a package of Essentials, 30 individual pouches with the above products in it. That means you get the benefit of a whole health program without having to buy a whole bottle each of the above products. It is risk-free because you can try it for 90 days and get your money back if you are not happy. http://wildwholefoods.net is my site. There is a nice educational series of articles too, this link goes straight to it: http://www.simplexityhealth.com/journey.html Happy reading, and let us know how you make out! Guest guest
Your body needs to be more alkaline , read the article below on the dangers of the acid reflux medications. Nasty New C. Diff Bug It's not yet clear what is behind the new epidemic of C. diff disease. There are several factors: READ THIS PARAGRAPH_ PLEASE! The bug is becoming resistant to the most commonly used antibiotics. A kind of heartburn drug called a proton-pump inhibitor -- including Aciphex, Prevacid, Nexium, Prilosec, and Protonix -- appears linked to C. diff infections. (!!!) A bad new strain of C. diff is spreading across the globe. It's that bad new bug that most worries Fred Arthur Zar, MD, medical director at the University of Illinois Hospital and professor of medicine at the University of Illinois at Chicago. " The new strain of C. diff has become the most predominant strain, " Zar tells WebMD. " The reason it is more nasty is it mutated and figured out a way to make 20-fold more toxin than the normal strain. ... If you have it, you get sick, and you need medical attention. " In addition to making about 20 times more of the two toxins produced by normal C. diff, the new strain makes a new, third toxin similar to a toxin seen in other disease-causing bacteria. According to the CDC, the new strain of C. diff already has invaded at least 19 U.S. states: California, Connecticut, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Missouri, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Texas, Washington, and Wisconsin. It has spread throughout Canada and, according to McDonald, is " wreaking havoc " in England, the Netherlands, Belgium, and France.
Guest guest
Excuse my ignorance but what does the " C diff disease " stand for? I have acid reflux and I am interested in the topic, but I have no medical training, so the meaning of the expression escapes me. Guest guest
I also suffer from acid reflux - the best remedy I have found is to swallow a teaspoonful of liquid honey before bed. This almost always prevents me from suffering any acid indigestion or reflux during the night. Red Delicious apples are also very helpful with this condition (I'm not too sure why this variety of apple in particular helps, but it does!!)
