Guest guest
Smitha is right, because the only available kind is the polished rice available at the any rice seller/store. The rice is washed before cooking to remove the dust, small pebbles etc. that enter during normal processing. You don't have to call rice the worst enemy of mankind, as it is the staple food of millions of Indians/Asians. The enemy would be the administration that blocks/overcharges the wheat supply. --- On Wed, 10/22/08, evergreengarden <evergreengarden wrote: evergreengarden <evergreengarden Re: Re:Rice is the worst enemy of mankind Wednesday, October 22, 2008, 2:01 PM Hello, I have a question about rice. Why some people wash it? Someone told me it's to eliminate the starch. However, if the starch is in the core of the grain, how can they eliminate it by washing? Does anyone know? Rena - Smitha Prasad Friday, October 17, 2008 4:12 PM Re:Rice is the worst enemy of mankind I would like to disagree with your view on rice. As a matter of fact, its not just rice, it the thing that everybody in Bangladesh, all the asian countries that suffer from diabetes due to rice is because its POLISHED Rice. White Rice is nothing but refined rice. Its stripped off all the good contents, similar to All Purpose Flour (Which is wheat flour minus the nutrients). Brown rice/Red Rice/Black Rice, there are many more varieties of rice in unpolished form and if that is consumed, due to high fiber and other nutrient content, you do not consume the same amount as you would on the White Rice(Polished) . I would say the worst enemy is REFINED PRODUCTS, stripped off all their nutrient content. And dont get me started on GM foods. I would say stick to organic culture, and organic foods to have a long and healthy life. Thanks, Smitha ____________ _________ _________ _________ _________ __ http://mail.
