the acid reflux medications.

Nasty New C. Diff Bug

It's not yet clear what is behind the new epidemic of C. diff

disease. There are several factors:

READ THIS PARAGRAPH_ PLEASE! The bug is becoming resistant to the

most commonly used antibiotics.

A kind of heartburn drug called a proton-pump inhibitor -- including

Aciphex, Prevacid, Nexium, Prilosec, and Protonix -- appears linked

to C. diff infections. (!!!)

A bad new strain of C. diff is spreading across the globe.

It's that bad new bug that most worries Fred Arthur Zar, MD, medical

director at the University of Illinois Hospital and professor of

medicine at the University of Illinois at Chicago.

" The new strain of C. diff has become the most predominant strain, "

Zar tells WebMD. " The reason it is more nasty is it mutated and

figured out a way to make 20-fold more toxin than the normal

strain. ... If you have it, you get sick, and you need medical

attention. "

In addition to making about 20 times more of the two toxins produced

by normal C. diff, the new strain makes a new, third toxin similar to

a toxin seen in other disease-causing bacteria.

According to the CDC, the new strain of C. diff already has invaded

at least 19 U.S. states: California, Connecticut, Florida, Georgia,

Illinois, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Missouri, New Jersey, New

York, North Carolina, Ohio, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Texas,

Washington, and Wisconsin.

It has spread throughout Canada and, according to McDonald,

is " wreaking havoc " in England, the Netherlands, Belgium, and France.

Try eating a little paw paw-see how it goes-try a little each day for a week and

if it helps-stick with it

Hi Lucia,

'C diff' is the short name for a bacterium called Clostridium difficile. It is

present naturally in the gut of around 3% of adults and 66% of children.

It does not cause any problems in healthy people, however some antibiotics which

affect the balance of 'good bacteria' in the gut can cause C diff to multiply

and cause symptoms including diarrhoea and fever. Most cases of this occur in

hospitals or care homes, and older people (over the age of 65) are most at risk.

Most people who suffer a C diff infection make a full recovery, but in rare

cases it can be fatal. It is highly contagious so is best combated by good

hygiene practices in healthcare environments, and less use of antibiotics.

Hope this helps!

Vicky

Excuse my ignorance but what does the " C diff disease " stand for? I have acid

reflux and I am interested in the topic, but I have no medical training, so the

meaning of the expression escapes me. Thanks--- On Mon, 10/27/08, C indy

Michelle,

Thank you for your post and the suggested herbs to us for Acid Reflux.

This information is exactly what I have been looking for. I too have a

trigger of stress and with two adopted teens with severe emotional problems,

it's difficult to find a moment that isn't stressful.. :)

Blessings,

Cynthia

Re: acid reflux

My 13 year old son has acid reflux (GERD). We've been eating fewer

acidic foods and using digestive enzymes. Stress seems to be what

makes his act up.

I've also gotten good results with bladderwrack and I give him an

ounce or two of aloe vera juice every day. Other natural approaches

are: (If you have any health conditions or use medications, be sure

to check for contraindications before using the following herbs.)

Licorice

Digestive enzymes

Hydrochloric acid

Aloe vera

Bladderwrack

Marshmallow

Slippery elm

Hope you find this helpful,

Michelle

The very first thing to look at is excess of lack of acidity. Take a little bit

of vinegar in water after a meal and if you feel better most likely you may need

acid. If that is the case get Beatine hydrochloride and star with one pill and

adjust every two or three days until you get the correct amount. If vinegar

worsens the situation most likely yoy suffer from excess acidity. Check your

stress level.

You can take a little bit of bicarbonate AS LONG as you do it immemdiately after

the meal. You do not want ot neutralize the acid that gathers 20-30 minutes

after the meals.

The senod important thing is to take digestive enzimes if the reflux happnes

right after the meal and pancreatic enzymens if it happens hours after the

meals. again take as many as you need to quiet the reflux BUT be careful if yoy

have an open stomach or duodenal ulcer.

If you need to take acid and enzymes take the acid before the meals and the

enzymes afterwards.

Good luck

---just a thought

wondering about your water intake --that is water .......

2 litresa day ish or more

and you may look into the principle of food combining and see if this

has any effect too

this is about taking proteins with carbs and veg at the same time

can be very important soo look into it
