I am currently taking 40mg of Celexa. I want to get off this

stuff, but I know what I'm going to go thru. I was on Zolof before &

tried to slowly lower my dose until I was taking none, but I would

still get this felling in my head that I can only describe as an

electric shock & it would last for minutes. The Celexa is going to

be the same if not worse. If I forget to take it for 2 days, the

head shocks start. Do you have any suggestions on how I can ease

this feeling unitl I get off this drug??

Hi Karen,

I'd hate for you to go through unecessary discomfort from weaning

too fast. I was so afraid to wean off the 30 mgs. Paxil I was on

several years ago that I did it much differently than what my doc

suggested. I lowered my mgs only 5 mgs at a time for 10 full days

each. It took what seemed like forever to do this, especially

because I was so looking forward to getting off of it once I didn't

*need* it anymore, but I never had a problem throughout the process.

Good Luck

Kath

The doctor is supprised that the antidepressants have this effect on me. It's like he doesnt believe me when I tell him how I feel when I'm trying to get off them. With the zolof I cut my dose in half for a week, then I took 1/2 every other day and by that time I was getting the "electric shocks" in my head. He told me Celexa wouldnt do this to me, but as I said, if I forget to take them for two days the shocks start. I guess this is my fault for depending on a drug to solve my problems. I'll get thru, just not looking forward to the shocks.

Thanks,

I don't know what others have responded to this yet (I'm catching up

on a week's worth of messages), but you can take AminoPlex (Craig

Nutraceuticals, Inc., tel. 800-293-1683) which will help with that.

(Note: Amino acids should not be taken with protein, so take them

half an hour before eating protein, or wait 2 hours after eating

protein.) And lots of vitamins, especially B-Complex with emphasis on

B-1. Make sure you eat well, stay off sugar and caffeine, go for

walks. If you need supervised medical help, contact me off-list and I

can give you the name & phone # of an M.D. who does not support the

use of psych drugs and has quite a lot of experience helping people

to get off of them, without using other drugs.
