Candace,

Is he exhibiting any other signs of anxiety throughout the day? Is there anything out of the ordinary (what is "ordinary"???) going on that might cause him to feel anxious? Candace Podratz <CandaceAndBrock wrote:

Nightmares is the only thing I can think of. DH said maybe he's hot so I got him a little bitty fan for his room and he still wakes up screaming and comes to bed with us (believe me it's MUCH hotter in our room) and sometimes he sleeps and sometimes he won't.

Maybe I can sneak a little lobelia in his sippy before bedtime..... maybe a little vodka for me. Ha ha

If he doesn't get enough sleep he's cranky but otherwise he's normal during the day. He's even getting to the age where he lets me have 5-10 minutes to myself here and there! A private shower! How long has it been??!?!?! : )

Last night was AWESOME! He was sooooo tired he fell asleep at 9 and slept until after 8 this morning! I dont' think I moved a muscle all night, I was so tired I'm not even sure if I breathed. LOL We both seem to be in a much better mood today.

One of the nights when I got him out of his crib he was screaming and looking at the window. I don't know what he could have saw since we're out in the country so besides the moon it's pitch black but something seemed to be freaking him out.

It's been happening more and more often, though. I'd say 1/2 the nights he ends up waking up like that.

I'd love to know what a little one like him could possibly dream of!!!!!!!

My daughter started having nightmares by the age of

one. I told her one day, age of 3, to come get me the

next time the monsters came and I would chase them

away. Worked like a charm -- in her dream she got me,

and I scared them away. Ever since she has had and

learned ways to get out of the worst parts. Be sure

to validate that whatever is waking him is scary; so

often the adults make it seem like " just a bad dream "

when at the time it is terrorizing.

Whatever it is MUST be horrifying because one time I went in there and he

was standing on his crib bars and literally jumped on me as I walked in. He

wanted OUT of his room asap.

A friend of mine's four year old started having nightmares a while back. Her response was to find a small model dragon with a crystal in it and set it by his bedside. The friendly dragon was there to chase away the nightmares and make sure that he didn't come to any harm.

This worked like a charm.

I think it would depend on how old the child is though as to what would work. The other problem can be Night Terrors, where the child literarily cannot remember what they were dreaming about. As another person on this thread said, dismissing them as "just a dream" can back fire on you. It might be an idea to find out if anything is concerning him, nightmares normally stem from something someone is worried about.

Dear Kath,

There is a B vitamin that helps to keep dreams and nightmares from surfacing into our conscious thoughts. This is B1. 100 mg each day with one of his meals will help fight this off and make him more alert throughout the day.

In capsule form it is digested well into the system. In tablet form only about 10-30% is absorbed through the body so obviously it should be taken in capsule form. The type of capsule is called a vegetable glycerin or something like that. TWIN LABS is a great brand name for such.

Just thought I'd throw that into this.

Love,

Zeb

P.S. An even more natural way to look at this would be to have 16 oz.. of fresh vegetable juice each night before bed. Healthy all around and has more vitamins than just B1.

My sister used to use "Monster Spray" with her kids. It was just an aerosol can of air freshener that she would take into the kids room at bedtime. She would spray in the closet and under the bed to keep away the monsters. Eventually she got them a little can that they could keep by their bed in case they woke up scared.

Personally, I imagine there are some great essential oils for just this type of thing... lavender comes to mind. Put a few drops of lavender in water and keep in a pump spray. The lavender oil will work as a relaxant as well as monster spray and would be much better for the kids health and the environment than the air fresheners from the store.

Great idea! Brock is only 1 so I don't think he'd understand all that but I'll keep it in mind for when he's older!
