Renal Failure in Cats

I know that this list focuses on us humans, but since we've had a lot of discussion about pets as well, I thought I'd ask about this.

A friend of mine has two cats and she just found out that they are in the beginning stages of Renal Failure - they are brothers about 14 or 15 years old. She is currently feeding them canned food twice a day with a little chicken broth mixed in. Is there anything she can do for them? I'm thinking raw diet with raw pureed veggies. Maybe some herbs in the food or water? I wouldn't know what herbs to tell her to try because I know there's a lot of stuff that cats cannot ingest. Any suggestions would be great.

i'd skip the veggies altogether - cats are carnivores. at that age, the

cats are not likely to recover well, and it might be more humane to let

them go off to sleep if they don't feel well.

however, if she does keep them going, i'd recommend she feed them only raw

ground organ meats - usually you can get these from the butcher for pennies.
