Not Good (was Ulcers?)

Well, a couple people asked for an update on my friend with stomach

problems, so here it is. I apologize if this is bitter, but " bitter "

doesn't even begin to describe how I'm feeling right now about the fact

that a sick person can't even see a doctor in this country without a

couple hundred dollars to get him in.

It isn't ulcers; in spite of the bloating, swelling and gas in his

stomach, there's no pain there that any food aggravates or that

acid-reducing measures (diet or otc medication) will help. We tried

treating it as gall-bladder problems because of the bloating/gas and

hollow pain that made breathing difficult--I've had gall bladder attacks

before and they were very similar--and that seemed to reduce some of the

swelling, but it didn't help anything else. And the pain is on the

wrong side for gall bladder anyway, so it could very well be an inflamed

spleen, which of course has a million causes, all of which you have to

go to a doctor and pay for expensive tests to diagnose. I have no idea

how we'll do this, and I'm absolutely terrified that it'll turn out to

be something that needs long-term care, and I'm so angry right now that

I can barely see straight enough to type, so I'm going to stop now.

Thanks everybody who tried to help, but it looks like there's little

anyone can do about a government that only cares about rich people.

I would suggest to your friend to call Doc as soon as possible. I am sure he is going to have an idea how to handle this.

I WISH. If this were Canada, at least he (and I, and my daughter) could

have regular checkups; that would be something! But no, I'm from Detroit.

Why would you want REGULAR check ups? In Canada, if it's not life threatening you have to pay for it out of pocket and that's after all the taxes.
