I just tried to search the group's archives for West Nile virus. I went back

10,000

messages, and don't have the patience to go back further.

As a " just in case " , I was wondering if there were any herbs that were

particularly helpful

for West Nile?? Or, would it be the usual for virus'....echinacea, oregon grape

root, usnea,

astragalus, etc.?

We live in Northern California, and are getting more and more cases of WN reported on the news every day. And where we live, there are mosquitos in abundance!!

We use a spray that we came up with here on this list to keep the mosquitos away. Basically a tincure of catnip, cut 50/50 with water, in a spray bottle. Worked wonders on the little buggers when we were camping, and we are still using it these days. Doesn't work for beans against gnats and such, but wonders against mosquitoes.

John, thank you for the information regarding using catnip tincture for a

mosquito spray. I

planted 2 catnip plants this year and they have so far survived the new puppy. I

will save

the recipe for next summer.

What I really want to know is what to do AFTER the mosquito has bitten and you

begin

having symptoms of West Nile. Any suggestions??

You are welcome!

As for what to do when the symptons hit, I have no idea. I hope the wise ones will pipe in on this, as we are worried about it here as well.

I'd like to hear any ideas about this as well!

We're not far from the river and there have been a few cases here in

NM. I've been keeping the dogs in most of the day and evening until

the days get a little colder, the cat is another story.

I've been trying not to do anything in the yard in the evening and

been going out in the mornings instead.
