help with black walnuts please

Hi,

The last time I picked up black walnuts we lived in the country and had a gravel driveway. We poured the green walnuts among the gravel in the driveway. As the walnuts dried the green turned black and the tires wore it off leaving the nuts.

They need to dry out good before you start cracking them.

If you don't have a gravel driveway just spread them where they can dry out and eventually you can shuck the black off by hand. You might want to wear some old gloves.

If you are making a tincture, use the whole nut, -green.

I think the green hulls are needed. I don't remember

how we got them off, only remember wearing gloves.
