In addition to 12 hours a week of treatment, he watches his diet carefully, avoiding most fruits, vegetables and potatoes. "It's tough, but if you want to survive, you have to adjust to the life style," said Copeland. Though he has waited seven years for a new kidney, Copeland and his family haven't lost hope. On Sunday, the National Kidney Foundation of Central New York held a walk to raise awareness about the disease.
