This is a departure from the politics I usually write about, but I have some real concerns about our freedom to choose what we want to put into our body. It should be everyones right to practice medicine on themselves if they wish without having to go to a Medical Doctor (quack quack) to get a prescription. I am speaking about the over-regulation of food suppliments and Vitamins by big brother government.

Industry watchers have been forecasting the imminent demise of the drug companies after all the bad news about their harmful products has finally reached the media. If this highly premature and optimistic eventuality does occur, it won't happen before the pharmaceuticals' thousands of lobbyists and pressure groups have brought down the nutritional manufacturers.

The major scene of action is the United States, where the Food and Drugs Administration (FDA) is taking a keen interest in restricting the sale of vitamins. Vitamins and other health supplements are currently protected under the Dietary Supplement Health and Education Act (Dshea) 1994, which has allowed for the free sale of vitamins and supplements provided the manufacturers make no health claims for them. But the FDA is working with several groups to step up quality control at the manufacturing stage, and the regulator is also making noises about the safety of supplements.

As a result, a new action group - the Coalition to Preserve DSHEA Mission - has been created, and we hope it gets the support from the vitamin industry. When we set up the Health Freedom Movement, we found it all but impossible to stop the internal bickering between the groups and associations.

Meanwhile the EU machine against alternative medicine rolls on. A new German report is suggesting a very low 'safe upper limit' for vitamins. For instance, the group - the recently created Federal Institute for Risk Assessment - is recommending a level of just 225 mg for vitamin C whereas many health stores in the UK currently sell 1000 mg tablets.

Most of the bog standard vitamins you see for sale in the health shops and in the weekend newspapers are pretty ineffective – usually because the dosages are far below anything that would make any difference.

If its proposals are allowed to go ahead, the amount of beta-carotene you could buy would be equivalent to that found in two carrots, while selenium would be restricted to the amount found in two Brazil nuts. Maximum recommended doses for vitamin B6 have been set at 5.4 mg against the 25 mg currently available in the UK, while B12 is recommended at just 9 mcg compared with 300 mcg available in many supplements.

The Alliance for Natural Health (ANH), which has been fighting the EU’s relentless campaign against the nutritional industry since 2002, says the proposals are based on selective, and poor, science. Fundamentally, it goes too far in protecting the public against something that is harmless, and potentially beneficial.

“If the EU Commission really believed these doses might be the highest safe doses, why aren’t they screaming for warning labels to be put on bags of carrots and Brazil nuts?” asks Dr Robert Verkerk, the ANH’s scientific director.The proposals could be implemented as early as 2009 under the Food Supplements Directive and Fortified Foods Regulation.

People, we can't have high dosage of Vitamins actually curing people of diseases, can we??

What! and cut into the big profits of the Pharmaceutical companies and the Medical Mafia who does not allow any other group to practice healing except those licensed by them. A industry that does not cure anything and doesn't want anyone else to cure anything either.

Last but not least, Lets not forget the population control people want to limit the world population to 500 million people. Reducing peoples life expectancy is their goal and cutting out alternative medicine is a must. I guess the HIV virus is not working fast enough so they need to eliminate effective vitamin suppliments.
