The girls don't go to school but they attend day camp in the summer. I'm so grateful they are kids that are proud of their diet because they get a lot of " What the hell is that? " from the other kids. Then they let them try some of their lunch and they usually have converts. My heart is saddened everyday that I see children with their pathetic excuse for a diet. It got so I packed extra organic carrot sticks and told the girls to give them out freely to the kids that asked them for some. I mean they were being HOUNDED for carrots!

They belong to a church choir in our little town. They met from 6:30 to 7:30 and the choir ladies insisted that all the parents take turns bringing a snack. Now I ask you, can a child not wait one hour to eat something? Then I realized, it was like a female version of a pissing contest with these mothers. The snacks were so elaborate that one mother tried to outdo the other. The girls reported every week there was some expensive bakery bought cupcakes decorated with sprinkles, another day some other crap!

Our girls brought organic cashew nut bars, apples and water in stainless steel bottles. The other mothers thought our girls were diabetic or had some other affliction that prevented them from eating their snack. The girls really thought it was quite perverse. And if you all think we force them to forego the crap - think again.

Our younger daughter is a fierce vegetarian and anti-sugar. I believe it's because she feels everything physically more strongly than others (as I do). Sugar makes her feel very ill, physically and emotionally. Every once in a while she arrives home from a program and crumples into tears, " I couldn't help it, I had a cookie! "

I mean, it's a cruel world out there for kids who are trying to stay healthy.Janet
