Also has anyone had experience with bald spots on a tongue. I do not see that

mentioned in any thing I have read thus far. My grandchildren have these spot,

they come and go. that look as if several layers of tissue have been removed

from the surface of their tongues. the " bald area is red and shiny, with a whit

ecoating around the border.

Thanks

Rabiah,

The 'bald areas' you are referring to have been called a 'mapped'

tongue in my classes. Stomach qi is responsible for holding the coat

on the tongue, so a mapped tongue is indicative of Stomach qi

deficiency. As far as thorns go (enlarged taste buds), these tell us

that we are looking at a heat condition, the more and bigger the

thorns, the more extreme the heat. If the thorns are purple, they can

be a sign of blood stagnation. Sometimes the location of the thorns

on the tongue will tell us the location of the imbalance. A very

simple correspondance is the Upper Jiao (Lung and Heart) for the tip

one third of the tongue, the Middle Jiao (Stomach and Spleen) for the

middle one third, and the Lower Jiao (Kidneys and Intestines) for

the back one third. The Liver/Gallbladder correspond with thin, front-

to-back side strips. I am still a student, so this is theory as

opposed to real clinical experience.

Thank you Matt for for your response. It is very much appreciated. This

persons tongue is covered with these thorns, and they have ben there for awhile

I

have been so focused on getting the red out, that I neglected that aspect of the

observation , I saw it but the reddness seemed more important to take care

of.
