Hi,

I have a 11 month old baby whose diet probably cosists of around 80%

(in calories) breast milk and 20% solid food. I am interested in

nfant/toddler diets according to Chinese dietary principles. My baby

had very bad eczema which is fading as she approaches her first

birthday. To me this means that her spleen and lungs needs support,

and preferably stay with a simpler diet. However, I am also worried

that at some point daily rice gruels in (meat and vegetable) broths

may not provide enough nutrients, particularly as she gradually weans

from the breast. What is the Chinese view on dairy products, fruit

and vegetable juices, and dietary fat for infants/toddlers? Are they

too damp/cold for immature systems? People in Chinese herbal

pharmacies have suggested that my baby drinks a broth of fried barley

sprouts, rice sprouts, shan yao, eurayles, and chinese hawhorn. I

have been making a drink from random ingredients and dosage to

replace fruit juice and the baby seems to be ok with it. At least

it will supply extra vitamins without the sugar of juices.

Any recommendations on books? Anyone knows something about

Bob Flaws' " Handbook for TCM Pediatrics? " and if it might be

useful to someone who has access to Chinese pharmacies and

has studied quite a lot of TCM on the internet (including

this list)? What other books are recommended for TCM nutrition

and disease prevention/treatment for toddlers?

Thanks,

Anna
