Origin of this disease is: the xin-functions can't maintain proper heart functions because a mixture of 1) xin-qi is not sufficient; r: wu-wei-zi-tang 2) xin-yang is not sufficient; r: si-ni-tang (maybe because of shen-yang deficiency caused by blood pressure medicine) 3) xin-yang is extremely depleted; r: si-ni-tang + renshentang + hui- yang-jiu-ji-tang 4) xin-blood is not sufficient (maybe because the blood producton is blocked by tan(slime)) 5) xin-vessels are blocked; r: xue-fu-sui-yu-tang (maybe because of Qi-deficiency) 6) tan(slime)-substances harrass the xin-vessels; r:tiao-tan-tang (maybe as a toxic side effect of cortisone therapy) 7) yin deficiency developed fire; r: zhu-sha-an-shen-wan 8) qi and yin are deficient; r:sheng-mai-san 9) the xin-spirit is not calm; r: an-shen-fu-mai-tang develops. The r:recipe serves as a reminder for the fundamental therapeutic principle, to be adopted/changed according to the syndrome mixture. I could list 10 main herbals for each condition, but...in practice I see a colourful mixture of syndromes, a complex recipe has to be formulated, in the end quite contradictory herbals have to be mixed. Here the art of combining herbals (pei-wu) starts. Besides the main disease, the side effects of chronic intake of chemical medicines also has to be taken into consideration. An overweight 85 year old male with chronic unbearable cough, asthma, diabetes, HBP, taking cortisone and diuretics will get a different diagnosis and treatment than a slim young anorexic pale girl. Get the idea :-) ?
