Guest guest
Someone who moniters this list has been sending virus's to my e- mail account. It is unbelievable that people suffer this level of mental disorder - very sad - but what to do. The person who is sending this nonsense should raise their level of awareness as it is impossible for a person with a account to open a virus - all mails and attachments are scanned for virus's. So if this is the way you choose to waste your life - then that is your choice - but really there are more intersting and profitable things to do than send virus's to people you do not even know and who can not possibly even be harmed in any way by your attempts to entertain yourself. A wasted life is very sad.
Guest guest
So you know for a FACT that the person is doing it intentionally? There is NO POSSIBLE way they've been hijacked? Please offer up this proof. Khepri Vinod Kumar wrote: > Someone who moniters this list has been sending virus's to my e- > mail account. A wasted life is very sad. It's probably not a member of this list, though it may appear to be. There are viruses which `spoof' a real email address and send baddies out everywhere. Or else someone has picked up a worm which looks at the address book and sends junk out. But everyone should take a look at their computer and use AV software to weed out the nasties. sue
Guest guest
Its probably more a case of someone unknowingly having a virus in their computer. The virus has accessed their mailbox and is sending out e-mail on its own to everyone listed. I used to get mail containing viruses occationally and when I recognized it from a friend I'd phone them. In every case they didn't have a clue what their computer was doing. But yeah, someone up stream created that virus. What a total waste of energy! Guest guest
The way the message from Vinod is worded, it seems to imply that he knows the name or at least the email address of the person who is sending the virus and that it must be someone who posts here and that he recognize but he doesn't want to embarrass publicly! Seems strange to me that it would be done on purpose to someone as kind as Vinod, I agree with Penel that it is most likely a case of a chain reaction! Guest guest
I probably should let Vinod speak for himself, but in the past the people who targeted me and other people I have known would send messages from e-mail addresses that were from a freemail account and designed to disguise their identities. Perhaps it would be random words and letters as a user name at freemail dot com. I knew they monitored the list because either the subject line they used or they would send content related to the list. That and it began as soon as I started posting to the list. It's part of the reason I use a different account for that now. Some particularly determined individual used the moderator's email address so it seemed he was sending viruses to himself. Once he looked at the detailed headers he found out what account they are sending it from. Besides, if you are determined to send a virus around the world, why not start with a listserv? One last horror story and I will let it rest. Another friend's computer had been infected with viruses for some time, but she had no way to backup her family photos and afraid to lose them she neglected to clean it up. Well, eventually, it seemed that someone had hijacked her email account and was sending me and her other friends email asking questions we knew should would know. That was probably a spyware issue and a rather unusual one at that. Anyway, anti-virus software cannot be emphasized enough, particularly if you don't have a good spam guard and web-based mail that scans for viruses. There is AVG from Grisoft and something else I discovered recently called AVAST, both free. It's remarkable how a neglected computer can be a metaphor for a neglected body, don't you think? Zen What I find remarkable is how perversely human is the pathological need to get attention... even if it means causing harm to others! From the teenager blasting his boombox on his shoulder as he swaggers down the street to the 911 terrorist's unspeakable act of horror, it all makes sense when seen as an attachment to the " judgement " of others as a validation of their existance! The " Pros " have their own email servers...several....they are scattered across the planet usually...they have " bots " that " farm " email addresses for them, they target these bots to farm from , MSN, AOL, eBay, Amazon...etc....because that's where the people are They can send mail spoofing the 'From' address....whcih allows them to send mail to lists and others.... I think I remember pursuing something like domain encryption top try to slow it down since they are a prime target...I believe the daemon basically checks the From address and then the From domain.....(should have read the entire article)...something to that effect. If it were someone actually a member of the list I can tell you they are a rank amateur that would be easily hunted down.... Of course there's always our own over-zealous virus scanners from varying companies that have the ability to falsely nail an item. And bottom line scans everything (inbound and out?) under a contract with MacAfee if I recall....it's not likely a virus would actually make it through without being tagged as such. p.s. A recent study showed that if " they " decided they wanted to get into your system, it didn't really matter what defences you had, it would only take them 1 to 3 minutes to breach the security. IOW, it's going to happen no matter what, you're own vigilience is the best defence. Back to " lurk mode " since I know next to nothing about TCM... I think its a question of finding a middle path by first identifying the polarity. For every excess there is a reciprocal deficiency. The opposite of hate is not love. Both hate and love are extreem feelings of emotion. The opposite of both of them could be indifference. One can sedate the excess but, unless one deals with the deficiency, the physical phenomena will reappear where ever there is the least resistance. The murky mad world of virus senders is totally unknown to me. Why? How? etc.? is beyond my experience and I must admit that no matter how I have ever looked at it it seems like a serious pathology. The two I recieved had a suducing identification in the URL that referred to this list.
Guest guest
I have been an IT professional for many years, and I can assure you that 99.9% of viruses are sent by people that have no idea their computer is infected. When a virus infects a computer, the first thing it does is search the computer's data for any other email addresses it can send itself out to. Each message from this list has at least one email address on it. Messages from this list are on thousands of computers worldwide. All it takes is one of them to be infected, and then everyone on this list who has posted recently is going to be sent a copy of the virus. The " From " addresses are often spoofed, so who the email says it's coming from is usually not who it is actually from. More malicious viruses will allow the virus author to take complete control of your computer and monitor everything you do on your computer in attempts to steal your identity, your credit card number, and your bank account. They will also use your computer to send out all the spam mail we love so much, and they will rent control of your computer to others to attempt more digital break-ins, denial of service attacks, and other cyber-crime if they don't have the knowledge to commit these crimes themselves. There's money to be made in it, and that's why it's already bad and getting much worse. Most of this garbage comes from Microsoft Windows systems. Buy a Mac or Linux computer instead. If you use Windows, keep your software patched and definately use an up-to-date anti-virus program. Those in the Kansas City area can call me for help at 913-558-8111 or email me at cdg1111us.
