The most common reason why Qi Rebels (ascends when it should

descend) or otherwise behaves chaotically is anger/ frustration/

impatience. But severe pain - the type due to Blood Stasis - also

can cause Qi to Rebel.

This is part of the reason why nausea and vomiting usually are

symptoms of gall stone and kidney stones attacks. The pain is quite

severe, and Qi Rebels. For anyone who has ever experienced the

passing of a stone (or gravel or " sand " ), one can actually feel the

Qi forcefully rushing up.

" In addition, if sand and stones gather and accumulate, they will

hinder the free flow of qi and blood, thus resulting in pain.

However, anger and/or emotional depression may also cause qi

stagnation which may evolve into blood stasis. Nausea and vomiting

may be due to both damp heat evils obstructing the middle burner and

chaos of the qi due to extreme pain associated with blood stasis

leading to disharmony of the stomach. " (Bob Flaws and Philippe

Sionneau, The Treatment of Modern Western Medical Diseases with

, p. 526.)

Stomach Qi is supposed to descend. When it ascends instead this is

called " Stomach Qi Rebelling. " The results can be things like

nausea, vomiting, and acid reflux. Spleen Qi is supposed to ascend.

When it descends instead of rising, this is called " Spleen Qi

Sinking " . Spleen Qi Sinking is a special case of Spleen Qi

Deficiency. It can manifest as prolapsed stomach, prolapsed uterus,

prolapsed anus, etc.
