I'm also still learning about TCM, but I can tell you what I think, based on what I've learned, and what I have read on that page. ankylosing spondylitis is how the condition is spelt, and this might help you be more able to look up different things on the internet, or when you are talking to people. It sounds to me like this condition is something to the effect of swollen joints and tendons, especially along the spine and buttock area. It also says something about fusing together spine columns. " Complications of ankylosing spondylitis may include inflammation of the colored part of the eye (iris), called iritis... " is a quote from that page. Both the tendons, and the eyes belong to the liver channel. I would suspect that if there is a problem with these two, there might also be a problem with weak or brittle fingernails. From a TCM staindpoint, when I hear this " Pain that moves around the low back area and changes in intensity, and morning stiffness that gets better once you start moving around or take a warm shower are common symptoms of ankylosing spondylitis. " I think that it would sound like a cold condition, but this is just a guess. Maybe some more advanced posters in the group can explain it better. I am not sure what results you have gotten from gua sha treatment, but if you feel that has worked, it may be worthwhile to look into ba guan, or cupping therapy. I hope this helps, and good luck with this difficult condition =) Also as a technical side note, does anyone know why when I post a link, it comes up how it should, and then it also comes up again inbetween symbols? How do I make it so it only comes up once? Thanks!
