I went back to the acupuncturist again, and I told her my husband

thought I was pregnant. She felt my belly and being I really didn't

have any symptoms, she didn't think so, but said something isn't

right. She sent me to the regular OB/GYN in her building to make sure

and put my husband at ease. So I went there yesterday, and I am

pregnant, not that I planned it, but at least there is no serious

problem. This doctor seemed nice enough, but she is mainstream and

only delivers at hospitals. She said they have a midwife on staff, but

didn't really elaborate and kind of rushed me out the door before I

could ask the questions I wanted to. It is also a pretty long drive.

The midwife the next closest I used with my last one, she was ok, but

I would like to do better. She is really vaccine pushy and last time

she kept bringing up my age and risks. She made it clear at the

slightest sign of problems, she would rush me to the ER of the

hospital she deals with, which is the opposite direction of my home,

and quite far. I have tried googling for midwives, but am coming up

empty. So was hoping maybe someone on this list could recommend one or

another site to search. I'm pretty sure not all of them are on those

data bases, especially the ones that I would be interested in. I am in

Central PA. Thanks for any help.

Hi Melanie,

I am a student midwife in VA. You are right most midwives are not available on

the Internet and many are still practicing illegally.

I do not know how many on this list would be into this subject so if you would

like to write me off list we can work to find a midwife for you. There area you

live is in a great ammout of legal pressure for midwives. So many are rather

overly cautious about their care right now. I have a close friend who lives

around there and she was saddly turned away by her midwife after they found out

she would be having a breech birth it was just to dangerous for the midwife.

Lucky for her she knew some midwives out here so she came here to have her baby

at a friends house. Beautiful birth. I have lots of information and websites to

look at that are good resources for finding a midwife. I have a questionnaire

hand out for families that address questions they will want to ask their care

providers to help them in choosing who would be best for them.

Careful of non-freestanding birth centers or midwives who work for the

hospitals. They are bound by that protocol and the hospital rules so it will be

more difficult to get the care you want if you are not looking to go the main

stream route.

A few websites to look at are organizations that advocate the midwifery model

of care. For the safety of the midwives who are not " in the system " I do not

want to drop any names but again contact me off list and we can talk.

Blessings

Melanie,

Geat news I just spoke with a midwife friend who I assist and she gave me the

info of a midwife that serves around you, her name is Liz. She might be a bit

far for you but she knows the midwifery community there, so she could most

likely be able to direct you to a great provider. You can mention that Sam, one

of Marguirite's assistant recommended you to her. She serves Jersey and sw PA

you might even be able to meet with her to talk. If you have troubles let me

know and I can look into some other resources.

Many warm blessings

Sam
