Guest guest
It is my belief, and any specialist such as Al please correct me, that balding is of the Kidney functioning. Of course right now that is the least of my problems. I now have hypertension and have been diagnosed with diabetes mellitus. All this in addition to mental illness. I am overwieght. About 260 lbs for a 5-8 or 5-10 man. What organ function is the diabetes associated with ? I hope losing weight will help me. Bill
Guest guest
Hi Bill, Yeah, anything you can do to lose weight is going to help both your diabetes and (potentially) your hypertension. If you can focus on whatever it takes to achieve that goal, you'll be healthier and happier. I find that exercise also moderates and harmonizes my own mental health. Sometimes team sports or group activities help to get me out of my head too, and that can produce some mental health benefits. -al. Diabetes can present as many different syndromes in Chinese medicine. There's this sense of " spleen jing (essence) " being equated to plasma glucose (blood sugar). I call it a " sense " because it isn't something you'll find in the classics, but for those practicing a more contemporary/integrated Chinese medicine, it stands to reason. The flavor of the earth element (Spleen/Stomach) is sweet. Does that mean " glucose " ? Some people think so. However, when we look at the life span of this disease, we can see a variety of syndrome presentations. Most authors focus on the writings from the classics that talk about the three kinds (upper, middle, and lower) xiao ke syndrome as being the excessive thirst, hunger, or urination of diabetes. The thing is, the classics talking about xiao-ke (loosely translated to " diabetes " ) are generally focused on later stage problems where the body is really falling apart. With our modern new-fangled blood tests, we can see what early stage sub-clinical (before symptoms arise) diabetes looks like too. As is often the case in TCM, new problems are due to excess and old problems are due to deficiency. Excess Stomach Fire or Damp-heat in the middle burner are two presentations of early stage (adult onset) diabetes that I've run into myself. After a while, the fire or heat can damage the yin giving rise to that Stomach yin deficiency that the classics describe as " middle xiao-ke " . So, diabetes isn't JUST the Spleen. When push comes to shove, we have to look at how the patient presents rather than have any preconcieved notion of what to expect. That's important. When a practitioner is confused by how to treat a biomedically defined disease, its often a good idea to at least start out with treating what you see, not what you think. -al. -- , DAOM Pain is inevitable, suffering is optional. Some cases are more easily treatable. For hypertension, take garlic and cayenne. Celery Juice is good for hypertension with high cholesterol. Black sesame is good, and it will also tonify foundational essence. Radishes are good too for htn. For the diabetes, get exercise and fresh air. And start eating right.
