Sleep after TCM med

I have been taking Shou Wu Pills for my hair and also Two Immortals for kidney

yin and yang deficiency for the last one month. My hair condition has improved

for which I give credit to Shou Wu Pills. But for the last one week I have

disturbed sleep after 2:30 am and also sweating around my neck. I stopped taking

both and night sweating stopped within 24 hours but sleep remains disturbed.

Which of the two formula is the source of my problems. I suspect Two Immortals

is the cause of sleep problem and night sweating.

After sometime when my sleep improves I will again start with Shou Wu pills and

see if it impacts sleep, if not then Two Immortals could be the cause.

Would appreciate comments.

Regards.

I don't know what is *really* in either of your formulas, but assuming that

the Shou Wu Pills is just He Shou Wu, and the " Two Immortals " is the six

herbs normally used, it would likely be the Two Immortals formula that is

causing your internal heat. It has some warm herbs in there. It also has

some cool herbs to balance it out, but if you don't need Two Immortals, but

rather a yin tonic such as Liu Wei Di Huang Wan (Rehmannia Six Pills) then

you're going to suffer from heat symptoms.

He Shou Wu is slightly warm, but it also nourishes Liver blood which should

address insomnia, not create it.

warm, warm, neutral = warmish, depending on dosages.

cold, warm, warm, cold, cool, warm, hot = roughly neutral in temp, though I

believe ultimately on the warm side.

So, that's just an assessment of temperatures. I still think that the Two

Immortals formula is more likely because it has the function of increasing

Kidney Yang (internal warmth) even though it also removes deficiency heat, I

believe this is your culprit.

The He Shou Wu formula is I believe less potent, meaning less likely to be

causing the problems, but again, theory isn't as important as your own

body's response. So give up one, then the other, and you tell us which it

was that was causing the problems...
