Caffeine addiction

I don't take the default position that caffeine is a bad thing. But I have

found that there are certain foods that will prevent me from tasting my

morning cup of coffee. In particular, I find that basil (fresh) leaves can

prevent me from tasting my coffee the next morning.

Auricular acupuncture is very good for any addictions. You can also get

ear beads, which you stick in for a few days and press on them whenever

you get cravings.

I have heard an opinion that caffeine (as possibly smoke) helps our

bodies to cope with modern environmental pollution. I.e. without cofee

and smoke modern humans are more vulnerable and possibly become more

damaged by pollution. Thus moderation in coffee may be even better (in

modern conditions) than abstinence.

I would be interested to know where did you learn that information.

What I learned is that " tea " is good to help our body with its anti-oxidant,

not because of the caffeine in the tea.

The truth is human body is such an amazing system, as long as you keep

everything " moderate " , your body can cope with it.

In the other words, you won't be able to know if it's doing you good or bad.

The next question then would be " what is good for me " ? You have to ask

yourself this question and listen to your body. One person's poison may be

the other person's medicine, or vise versa. If you are following the latest

" medical discoveries " everyday, you end up with tons of contradicting

information.

Am I healthy or not? Do I even know the definition of healthy person? Try

google it or ask your doctor, see if they can make you understand.

If they can not make you understand such a basic concept, chances are they

don't really know what they are talking about.

Back to the caffeine addiction question, may I ask when did you go to bed

last night? How many hours do you sleep everyday? Do you sleep all night

through? Do you have lots of dreams while sleeping? When do you feel you

need coffee?

....this is related with Wei Qi, and not smoke or caff.

The body takes what it needs, and the rest goes away...by itself, without

thinking.

I suggest, be more sensible with your body, try Tai Chi, Qi Gong, Yoga...etc.

Becasuse, you know...when your body goes this way, your mid that way and your

spirit the other way....it's a " mess around " ...

  • 2 weeks later...

I tried quitting coffee about 10 years ago. I went 6 weeks

without a cup of coffee. I decided at that point that

life without coffee wasn't worth living. I've been

drinking coffee ever since.

Am I addicted? Probably so. But I also like the flavor

(Costco's Kirkland), with milk or half and half, no sugar.

I like the way it starts my day and contributes to regularity.

Now that I am retired I drink less - about 3 or 4 mugs a day

(no more coffee breaks at work).

There have been recent articles taking the point of view that

as a heart stimulant it is actually good for you. I once saw

a movie about Bedouins in the Arabian desert that brew and drink

coffee all day long. They seemed a hardy bunch.

There's probably a lot of things in life that are worse for you.

And for about 10 cents a cup if you brew it yourself, there's

few things that can match the cost / benefit.

I agree, Bob.  I tried a few years ago to quit also, and just decided life was

much better WITH coffee; I'm probably addicted as well, but that's OK, it's an

enjoyable, tradition-rich addiction.  And as you pointed out, more and more is

being discovered about the benefits of coffee, so I now have support for my

addiction, LOL.
