Dear Rich, Shanna, Susie, Barbara and All,

First of all, bravo to Rich. You cut directly to the chase and turned our

disquiet into a learning experience. Well done!

My own student experience and my almost 20 years of assisting student learning

as a college instructor tells me that getting something wrong (or not entirely

right) is the quickest way to take the next step in learning. The most

effective learning is " active " learning ... not just reading a book in a quiet

room. Effective, active learning is often accomplished by explaining a concept

or a mechanism to someone while looking into their eyes. Performing in the

presence of others is a very effective tool, so I encourage my students to form

groups for this purpose. I believe that's what we have here ... this TCM

group sponsored by Attilio. We need to patiently encourage people to

participate ... to safely perform their understanding ... and thus learn through

an active forum.

Rich and Z'ev have made it possible for Shanna to take the next step in her

understanding about her posted inquiry. I suppose it's not a surprise that Z'ev

is the senior faculty member and the chairman of the faculty at Pacific College

of Oriental Medicine. He was the first to step in to facilitate Shanna's query.

I suggest we promote this collegial atmosphere. People can learn to be

passionately inspired with out necessarily disrupting the harmony and safety of

the learning process. This may in fact further the profession through

inspiration. Perhaps that was always the original intention of the most

passionate members of our group.

Respectfully,

Emmanuel Segmen

Dear Emmanuel,

Thank you for your kind words. I very much enjoy coming to this forum

each day and learning something new - from you and from others. I am

glad I was able to contribute something in return.

Regards,

Rich
