Guest guest
Ya'll have made me homesick for those good ole days too...cold creeks to drink from and swim in (imagine doing that today...neither is safe!!)...plowing fields with daddy...dropping seeds at planting time!!! They were the greatest...even the music from the 50s is still my very favorite! Guest guest
Butch and Effie, I know you guys will relate to this as I did. Deonia > > DIRT ROADS What's mainly wrong with society today is that too many Dirt Roads have been paved. There's not a problem in America today, crime, drugs, education, divorce, delinquency that wouldn't be remedied, if we just had more Dirt Roads, because Dirt Roads give character. People that live at the end of Dirt Roads learn early on that life is a bumpy ride. That it can jar you right down to your teeth sometimes, but it's worth it, if at the end is home...a loving spouse, happy kids and a dog. We wouldn't have near the trouble with our educational system if our kids got their exercise walking a Dirt Road with other kids, from whom they learn how to get along. There was less crime in our streets before they were paved. Criminals didn't walk two dusty miles to rob or rape, if they knew they'd be welcomed by 5 barking dogs and a double barrel shotgun. And there were no drive by shootings. Our values were better when our roads were worse! People did not worship their cars more than their kids, and motorists were more courteous, they didn't tailgate by riding the bumper or the guy in front would choke you with dust & bust your windshield with rocks. Dirt Roads taught patience. Dirt Roads were environmentally friendly, you didn't hop in your car for a quart of milk you walked to the barn for your milk. For your mail, you walked to the mail box. What if it rained and the Dirt Road got washed out? That was the best part, then you stayed home and had some family time, roasted marshmallows and popped popcorn and pony rode on Daddy's shoulders and learned how to make prettier quilts than anybody. At the end of Dirt Roads, you soon learned that bad words tasted like soap. Most paved roads lead to trouble, Dirt Roads more likely lead to a fishing creek or a swimming hole. At the end of a Dirt Road, the only time we even locked our car was in August, because if we didn't some neighbor would fill it with too much zucchini. At the end of a Dirt Road, there was always extra springtime income, from when city dudes would get stuck, you'd have to hitch up a team and pull them out. Usually you got a dollar...always you got a new friend...at the end of a Dirt Road! ~by Paul Harvey~

Guest guest
I like a lot of the jazz sounds, but not all. Dancing to it would be a challenge, and I make a tribute to you for learning how to dance to, Deonia! Wish I had time to do all of them more. When He gives us a gift we're supposed to use it. At various times in my life I have been able to use them all but although my mind is still sharp ( i think. LOL ) my body lets me down a lot. I can no longer make wedding cakes because my hands swell and ache from squeezing the pastry bags. For a while before I quit all together, I decorated them with fresh flowers but even making the chocolate ( clay ) became too hard for me to do. I can no longer do Garde Manger` either and that was one of my great loves in food preperation. I think sewing will probably be the thing I will be able to do the longest since the machine does it all for you. Deonia

Guest guest
Deonia: Yes, I actually experienced the dirt road era. Kinda aging myself, but oh well. I used to have to herd cows on dirt roads many years ago. One time my younger sister was supposed to be helping and staying on the one end so they couldn't get in the corn. At that time they were putting a pavement on the stretch of road from the Minnesota border on south. Anyway, she let the cows get in the corn on her end and guess who got blamed for it? ME!!! Boy did I get a whopping for that and it wasn't just a good hard smack--it was over mothers knee using one of dad's slippers which always set on the treadle of moms sewing machine. I was so mad I wouldn't let myself shed a tear which only made matters worse. Used to park on a few dirt roads when I was in high school. Enough said with that!!!!!!! Brings back a lot of memories. Blessings and love, Effie >Butch and Effie, I know you guys will relate to this as I did. Deonia > > >> >> DIRT ROADS > > > >
Guest guest
Hi all: Dancing--is used to live on the dance floor or roller skating rink. Done the old fashioned jitter bug and Charleston. What fun and fond memories. Thanks you Deonia for sharing this. I like jazz too--in fact I listen to everything from semi-classical to jazz. I am not much for country, however, there are some good ones in country music also. " THANKS FOR THE MEMORIES " Blessings and love, Effie Helen & Carl Long <hlong Friday, February 01, 2002 5:42 PM Re: Fwd: Dirt Roads >I like a lot of the jazz sounds, but not all. >Dancing to it would be a challenge, and I make a tribute to you for learning how to dance to, Deonia! > >Helen > - > BubblesWithStyle > > Friday, February 01, 2002 4:54 PM > Re: Fwd: Dirt Roads > > > In a message dated 02/01/2002 3:42:53 PM Eastern Standard Time, > hlong writes: > > > > even the music from the 50s is still my very favorite! > > > > > > Mine Too! although I also lived in Chicago and was influnced by the Jazz > sound. learned to dance to it.
