Guest guest
Okay, can't seem to keep the cats from eating all my plants. Went to get some spray stuff and put it back on the shelf when I read all the chems they put in them. Anyone know a natural way (besides tying them down with duct tape) to get them to leave them alone? How about vinager and water? Will that kill the plants? Thanks all! Guest guest
you could trying growing oat grass specifically for the cats. many pet supply stores sell the seeds. perhaps, if they have this to eat, they will leave your other plants alone. i have found that this works. if i get lazy, and forget to sow a new crop for him, he goes back to munching on the other plants. Guest guest
cats/houseplants=oxymoron Cats know that any plant in the house is THEIRS. Even if they taste disgusting, just for a show of territory marking, cats will bite a plant. If its a nice spikey plant, cats will cover it in cat fur. In all my years of sharing my life with cats, I've never had a plant all mine. I even tried dried wheat. Equivalent to mary wanna. Cat tails? (bull rushes for the uk) Forget about it. Unless you want to spend the next 6 month cleaning up exploded tails! Great fun for the cats though. All you can hope for is just a few nibbles gone, and minimal puke after their tasting spree. Which is why you don't want poisonous plants in the house! Cheers! Guest guest
Hi Jackie, Spray your plants with a solution of Cayenne pepper and water. Doesn't take much to do the trick and won't harm your plants, kitties or anything else. If they are digging in the soil, sprinkle a bit of Cayenne pepper (black also works for this but cayenne is better) on the soil. A few mothballs also work to keep them out of the soil, but then you have to deal with the fact that a child or dog might decide to taste it. The pepper method is the best........... Guest guest
Unless you have a cat that likes the pepper or doesn't mind the sneezes. My parents have a cat that hot chilli pepper did not stop. They gave up on house plants after this. Guest guest
I mentioned this problem to my daughter who has four cats and she has used apple bitters in spray form. But, she has also had to put aluminum foil over the dirt so they don't use it for a litter box!!
