Guest guest
Hi y'all, This is and old one. Did y'all know that I once held a seat in the US Congress? Yep .. sho'nuf did. Was during my Guthrie, KY, High School trip to Washington, D.C. They let us yonkers in and I sat my butt down in one'a them seats I did. And I once lectured at Harvard .. bet y'all woulda never guessed that .. ;-p Was visiting the campus with my family and one'a the younguns was acting up. My ex-wife always said I didn't correct them, I lectured them. Anyway, after I read the beginnings of Raindrop Therapy in Kathleen's fine on-line pub, the below sorta seemed trivial .. but here it is. Butch ----------------------------- More Turkish Things " Gary Young " Thu, 19 Mar 1998 20:16:00 +0200 Butchbsi (Butch Owen) Aromatherapy Folks, Our buddy Graham asked me to check out a few things - and I did. I posted this to Graham today and asked his permission to also post it to the list. I haven't received an answer from him and it's possible that he might be away. The end of this message contained the contents of TWO messages received from Graham. For convenience, I consolidated them into one format. Anyway, I decided to post it. Dear Graham, 1. There are two universities in Izmir, Turkey: Dokuz Eylul and Ege. Both universities are " accredited " but neither is " dedicated " to Essential Oils or Aromatherapy. In fact, aromatherapy is not a big deal here in Turkey! a. Dokuz Eylul University: Gary Young has never been enrolled as a student and has recieved no degrees from Dokuz Eylul University. This information was obtained today from Mr. Enver Cukurkent (Office of Student Records and Administration), Dokuz Eylul University. b. Ege University: Gary Young has never been enrolled as a student and has received no degrees from Ege University. This information is from Professor Dr. Ayhan Ceylan (Faculty of Agriculture), Ms. Nimet Olali (Health Sciences Department), and Ms. Ayse Durgan (Student Records and Administration). c. Professor Dr. Ceylan says that: (1) GY has taught no courses FOR Ege University. He did hold a seminar " AT " Ege University in 1996, but the organization of the seminar was at the request of GY and was presented by GY to 90 Americans he brought with him and 10-13 Turks who joined the group. (2) Mr. Young contacted Ege University and requested assistance as he wanted to present a seminar to people he was bringing with him. The role of Ege University was ONLY to provide him a Conference Room and coordinate hotel reservations. Mr. Young paid Ege University for their efforts. (3) The topic of the seminar was External Usage of Essential Oils. (4) To say that a " two week course was taught at Ege University " is somewhat misleading. A two week seminar was held at Ege University - in an Ege University classroom - but NOT FOR THE UNIVERSITY! 2. Anadolu University. In Eskisehir, Turkey. The spelling of the name of the university in Mr. Young's biography is incorrect. a. Professor Doctor Mustafa Keviz, a lecturer at the Agriculture and Plants Faculty, said today that there has never been any lectures given at Anadolu University by Gary Young. Dr. Keviz says he often receives requests for information on other " supposed " lectures similar to this and often he must regretfully inform people that it's untrue. He felt it necessary to warn that we should not easily believe people who say they have lectured here and there as people like to play " tricks. " Seems like very good advice. b. Today, I also talked with my friend, Professor Doctor K. Husnu Can (John) Basar, Dean of the Pharmacy Faculty and Director of the Medical and Aromatic Plant and Medicine Research Center, Anadolu University. Dr. Basar is a fine gentleman and an internationally well-known and published authority on EOs and medicinal plants. Dr. Peter Wilde also knows him well. c. Dr. Basar knows Gary Young. In fact, he said that Gary Young is there now - today - receiving instruction on the use of the Gas Chromatography; GY requested the training and GY is paying for the GC training. Anadolu University trains anyone willing to pay for training. d. According to Dr. Basar: (1) Gary Young has never presented (and will not present) any lectures at Anadolu University. (2) GY has NOT studied oil chemistry, absolute energy and gas chromatography with him in 1998. Professor Basar asked what type of " absolute energy " he is claiming to have studied. As I said, GY is recieving instruction on the use of GC now - but not from Professor Doctor Basar personally. Furthermore, Dr. Basar says Mr. Young WILL NOT receive any type of certificate of training for this instruction. (3) GY was not INVITED or sponsored by UNIDO (UN Industrial Development Org.) in 1995 to present any papers or lecture at Anadolu University. GY did show up and managed to convince some of the officials of his expertise.. He was allowed to present two topics. His presentation, in the opinion of Dr. Basar was, quote, " rubbish " and he was challenged by many of the experts in attendance. He was challenged in a MOST SEVERE manner when he quoted Bryan Lawrence, who was in the audience and took extreme exception to the things GY was saying. His presentation was not well accepted by those in attendance. (4) Later, in September 1996, GY again wanted to attend the UNIDO seminar at Anadolu and was refused admittance by UNIDO officials. (5) Instead of attending the UNIDO function - GY conducted his own seminar after renting an Ege University classroom. (6) GY offered to pay Dr. Basar to lecture at his seminar held in 1996 in the rented Ege University classroom but Dr. Basar refused. (7) GY has offered to provide Dr. Basar and Mrs. Basar an expenses paid trip to the USA this year (1998) if Dr. Basar will lecture. Dr. Basar says that he will refuse the kind invitation. 3. As for the World's Largest Conference in Istanbul in 1995 - there was a conference - the 13th International Congress of Flavors, Fragances and Essential Oils, held Oct 15-19, 1995. There were many attendees and dozens of speakers - Dr. Peter F. Wilde presented the topic " Extracting the Benefits " . There is no evidence that GY presented - but he might have attended.
