Guest guest
I have two sick babies here and the problem is they have some very loose mucus....adults know to just cough it up and spit it out, but they don't. I was thinking of making a balm/cream with Eucalyuptus and/or Peppermint in it to get the stuff flowing in an outward direction (okay maybe TMI there). Anyway....does anyone know if this is safe to use on a two and three year old? Thanks all! Jackie
Guest guest
Hello Jackie I certainly wouldnt use peppermint- but would use Eucalyptus RADIATA or SMITHII- not globulus or any other...and even then I would think it best to start in a diffusor or to do a " steam " - take them in to the bathroom and turn the shower on HOT(dont put them in!) just let them breathe- you could add some eucalyptus when the steam starts.Or you could put Euc in a bowl of hot water or a vaporizer. Or spritz it around the room. I might put a VERY low dilution on a child(gentler than vicks) Traditional medicinals makes a nice tea called " herba tussin " which has a pleasant flavor- add honey, too. Herbs for kids makes a glycerite called " horehound blend " or " cherry bark blend " both would be good- you need an expectorant. Honey and ginger tea is good, too(maybe with some cherry bark and slippery elm. Guest guest
I wouldn't put the stuff on them, but I would diffuse it in a humidifier or in a steam bath (to put your head over). I would do the same for me too. They need something up their noses:), not on their skin really. When my son (3) gets really bad at night I make something like vicks to put on his chest or more often on a wet washcloth hanging by his head. It is peppermint and eucalyptus (smithii) blended half in half. I mix maybe one or two drops of this into about two tablespoons of an aloe gel thickened with beeswax and put a little on his chest and under his nose. But at night, when my younger one (1) gets clogged up I just hang a wet washcloth by his head with a drop of eucalyptus and peppermint on it. Usually I wake up in the middle of the night and re-wet it with just water. The simple addition of water to the air will help them immensely, even without using any herbs or oils.
