That is VERY scary that a published soap making book got Soap Making Safety Rule #1 WRONG! > This will result in a volcano of lye and is very destructive and > dangerous. Always remember to add the lye to the water. Think of the chemical reaction with the lye and water this way folks ..... It is a violent reaction, like that of a volcano ... but a volcano erupting on land is going to spew a lot more " shrapnel " into the air than the one that erupts under the sea! Water contains the violent reaction better than air can. ALWAYS add your lye to the water .. NEVER the other way around. > EZ way to remember is the snow always falls on the lake. I like that one! :-D I'm gonna add that to my " righty tighty, lefty loosy " and " ROY G BIV " catchy reminders > > > Susan Miller Cavitch wrote the book " The Soapmaker's Companion " and > " The Natural Soap Book " .
