Guest guest
According to Greta Breedlove in The Herbal Home Spa, arrowroot (Maranta arundinacea) cosmetic properties are drying, base powder and demulcent. Rosemary Gladstar and Dina Falconi use it in many of their body and baby powders. It is not an irritant. Guest guest
I just ran to get coffee for work and saw that the store had bulk Arrowroot powder. I know some recipes call for it...what, I don't know. What *can* it be used for? AoB
Guest guest
Hi, Do you mean cooking or bath and body products? Well, for cooking, you can use it instead of corn starch or flour as a thickener, but only add about 1/3 as much b/c it is stronger. I like it b/c it doesn't tend to clump like the corn starch and flours does. For bath and body products, it works well in body powder recipes, and I haven't tried it, but I be you could play around and use it in bath bombs and fizzies instead of cornstarch. Now, maybe someone else can help us with the therapeutic properties of arrowroot. Are there any health of skin benefits? Guest guest
Funny how this topic came up today. I just finished making a batch of a new awesome hand gel and guess what makes it a gel...you guessed it, arrowroot powder. As stated it is also perfect for body powders too. I am not sure if it has health benefits but for it to be non irritating is for sure a body care product benefit. Happy Crafting! Guest guest
For cooking- arrowroot is an excellent sub 4 corn starch- as it actually has nutritional value... arrowroot grows in tidal flats and is rich in minerals including calcium...I use it in place of flour in some cookie recipes(yum) For powder- it is also better than corn starch- because it does not promote the growth of yeast, as corn starch does...
