I also use the scanner for my beadwork - yes, great detail that I just can't get with the camera. A hint for changing that icky looking background ... rather than just closing the lid of the scanner over the beads, lay a suitably coloured cloth over the whole thing so that becomes the background instead of the inside of the scanner lid. Depending on the colours in your beadwork, you may want to play around with it a bit to get the right coloured cloth.
