My first encounter with a live human birth was in the 'Nam in 1963. I was too young to vote or buy beer in the USA then. ;-p A medic and I were traveling past a lone grass shack when a frightened kid ran out hollering " Mamasan have babysan. " The peasants were much like those found in all the world .. they'd deliver their own baby and then go back to the fields. But this one was difficult and the medic had some formal training .. so I assisted him .. and all turned out well. Gotta say it was an experience and a half fer'shur. But later, I was in the delivery room when two of my four kids were born. Through 30 years of military service, including multiple tours in 'Nam and Somalia and a few other inpleasant areas, and service as a military cop during peacetime, I got used to blood and gore .. all except my own. I can stuff another person's guts back in and bandage it up .. can deal with a sucking chest wound and such .. but when I was wounded or hurt I got dizzy and eventually passed out. ;-p Y'all keep smiling, Butch http://www.AV-AT.com > Erin, full-time entertainer, teacher, doctor, maid, cook, chauffeur, > kisser of boo-boos to my Beautiful Trio & The Sprout appearing Spring > 2003. > > Have you seen Eden Essentials lately? > http://www.edenessentials.com
Guest guest
Erin! I knew there was a reason I like ya'! Homebirth...awesome. Wish I'd known about them back when I was having mine. But at least I learned in time about unmedicated, intervention free births in time for the last two. What a difference. Well, I attract like-minded folks. The fathers know up front that unmedicated/unassisted/homebirths ain't for sissys!! On the other hand, the fathers that take natural childbirth classes at the very least aren't afraid to be there and witness the strength of their partners giving birth. Never seen a man who didn't cry, laugh, smile, hurt (no jokes!) with her every step of the way. Now I've had couples come to class where the mom wants this and dad doesn't......you can figure out after a couple of classes whether or not it's going to be a mistake for them - ya gotta be on the same page. But dads really need to be able to do something. Seems like that's their biggest concern. What can they do?! So I'm teaching everything I and any other doula would do. Oh, so quick question: I need a quick fix of a base oil for massage. I can't find any jojoba in the neighborhood at the moment. I don't want to use olive oil 'cuz the smell can be too strong to try to overcome with oils plus it can turn rancid can't it? Not that I would have the oil sitting around (Italian household we go through it quick), but how do I know how long it's been sitting on the store shelf before I bought it?
