I have not heard anyone propose that eating soy with kelp or EFAs will somehow protect you, though. You have a source for this? From what I have read, yes the soy products that are fermented for months are safe, and beneficial. But anything over a couple of spoonsful of tofu a day is gonna be harmful, period. Guest guest
I haven't read her latest edition of the Menopausal Years, but Susun Weed addresses the combining of kelp with fermented soy. I hear her lecture on this. And she says the only type of soy that should be eaten is fermented. Guest guest
I agree, and I'm not suggesting that if you eat kelp and EFAs that you can eat as much soy as you'd like, only that if you believe soy could cause problems with cognitive brain function and thyroid that this is a way you can protect yourself if you want to include moderate amounts of soy in your diet. For me with endometriosis, it is quite a help. Everyone is different and needs to weigh the pros and cons of any choices they make. If I had a thyroid problem, I may very well choose not to eat soy at all. The reason that soy can be linked to problems with hypothyroid is b/c it interferes with the intestinal iodine intake. So if you eat iodine-rich foods like kelp then iodine deficiency becomes less of a problem. I don't have a source I can send you to for this anymore b/c I have had a number of hard drive crashes over the years and lost many of my original sources. But if you are interested, you can do a little research and find the same info, I am sure. Moderation is the key, and so is staying away from any foods that are isolated and over-processed, and not just soy foods. Debbie deb Look!
