Hi y'all,

Interesting bit of trivia from the Hurriyet (Freedom) Newspaper in

Turkey. Not sure how sound the polling techniques were .. and I would

suspect that due to terrorist activities that continued over 15 years,

Turkey has a greater number of villagers that migrated from the rural

areas to the cities than we would find in Iran, thus, a larger number

available to be polled. Its in the villages that we'll always find the

more devout followers of religion,

" Surveys made in two neighboring countries indicate that people in

secular Turkey are more pious than fundamentalist Iran. The number of

people in Turkey who say they believe in Allah and fulfill the

requirements of Islam, going to the mosque at least once a week, is far

greater than in Iran. The surprising figures found during the extensive

surveys - conducted by Germany's Conrad Adenauer Institute in secular

Turkey and by a company called Jelihar in the Islamic Republic of Iran -

make it all too clear that in Turkey people 'live' their religion freely

while in Iran the repressive Shariah regime is making people display a

colder stance towards religion. " UNQUOTE

I will, however, go along with the conclusion of the newspaper. In Iran

they try to force religion on the folks .. in Turkey, the system softly

discourages fundamentalist beliefs. Tell children or citizens that have

to do something and they'll balk .. tell'em they can't do it and they'll

figure out a way to get around you.

Y'all keep smiling, Butch http://www.AV-AT.com
