Guest guest
I am sure others with more experience than I will offer some great suggestions, but I would use the lavender or ylang ylang by themselves I love the lavender for calming and well, the ylang ylang is just lucious smelling. Tea tree is for a great healer, on a scrape, sore, just about anything. I wouldn't be without it in my house. Look it up and see all the wonderful uses and healing properties. Peppermint and lemon are good for uplifting and altertness. Rosemary should be used by anyone with high bloodpressure. Is that right Cris? Warmly, Fran I have lavender, rosemary. clary sage, ylang ylang, peppermint, lemon, frankincense, chamomile, tea tree, eucalyptus, thyme and 10% rose I can't what to see what good blends you know of!! Take care, Tara

Michael Thank you Michael. This is what I am trying to do...just live healthy. I still am a carb/sugar junkie, and when I would binge i would literally sometimes feel suicidal.... Pretty scary. It's been 2 days without sugar and 4 days without aspartame. All the books ive been reading suggest appox 20 gms of protien per meal. Im trying to get this from fish and chicken mainly. Doesnt rice and beans make a complete protien? Ive struggled with this my entire life, and I just want to enjoy life instead of being sad and depressed daily.... How bout St Johns suppliments? Do they work? My doctor told me it's like taking a low dose prozac... Carolyn
Guest guest
I have tried, over the years, many things for this. Among them are the pharmas, but also the natural things. I used to make a tea with the following: Valerian root steeped in cold water for a least a day; with skullcap, passion flower, and hops heated in hot water. I would mix the two together cold- Valerian cant be boiled, as it looses all its real value- Put in a gallon jug in the fridge, and a glass two or three times a day worked wonders for anxiety. St Johns Wort tea was a good antidepressant for me. But I also used alot of Blue Vervian or Verbena tea as well. I love Verbena...and lots of vitamin C laden stuff like oranges or grapefruits. Personally, though, in the end what I found as effective for both all at once is the simplest and cheapest of things...something so simple that it easy for me to follow through with, and involves the least amount of effort: Niacin; the kind you can still buy at the grocery store or walmart. I had earlier taken this for cholestral problems with quite good results...and thats when I used to go to Doctors and had a physicians supervision and tests to prove the efficacy of 500 mg three times a day for six weeks. (From 310 to 167 in six weeks...and pretty much still there after all this time.) I read some research somewhere in which Niacin is mentioned in treating some " mental illnesses. " I spoke to one of the psychiatrists locally, an older fellow, who recalled using Niacin therapy on schizophrenics who were part of some pilot program in an institution. Someone else said that there seemed to be some idea that this detoxified one somehow, removing the toxins that accumulate in us, including the brain, when we are too stressed, angry etc. Anyway, I finally tried it that way, and found that my mood remains fairly stable and OK, no ups or downs. And, there is sort of a feeling I get of being somehow cleansed of physical sensations involving stress after the flush goes away. Bluntly, it makes me feel better... and the flush is a welcome and warm feeling that I still have all my capilliary circulation, lol. It really is true, even with how I feel in this or any other respect, that if I put garbage in, I am going to get garbage out. Guest guest
St John's Wort (+/- 1000mg per day but not less) is beneficial for some people with mild to moderate depression from what I have been told - it works beautifully for me - when I feel depressed with no outward cause, I check my medicine box , and, sure enough, I have forgotten to take mine a day or two days ago. The professionals don't believe me: they say it takes longer than a day or two for the effects to show, but for me it has happened so many times, I am convinced. You have to be careful of the sun and it is contraindicated for some other medications. Would you be willing to et me know if you find any contraindications for taking it with 5 HTP ? I am wondering about adding 5HTP for sleep. Best, Val > How bout St Johns suppliments? Do they work? My doctor told me it's like > taking a low dose prozac... Guest guest
SJW acts as an SSRI (in a natural form). 5HTP is a precursor of serotonin. so you are doing 2 things....blocking reuptake of serotonin and increasing serotonin at the same time. it may lead to serotonin syndrome in some people which can be fatal and in lesser cases lead to seizure activity. Magnesium in a good absorbable form is GREAT for depression as is Omega 3 Fish Oil. In order for the body to produce adequate neurotransmitters you need not only the amino acid building blocks but also B vitamins, Vit D, Magnesium and other minerals. Something to consider is calcium intake. IF You are taking too much calcium you will be sucking up all your magnesium and not having Mg to synthesize proteins. that creates lower levels of NTs and magnesium deficiency.....which can lead to depression. Tart Cherry is GREAT for anxiety and its a super anti-oxidant. it also has trace amounts of melatonin....far less than in supplement form and much closer to the body's own amounts that it produces when we are children. (it can help you sleep like a baby!) , valejoie wrote: > > St John's Wort (+/- 1000mg per day but not less) is beneficial for some people with mild to > moderate depression from what I have been told - it works beautifully for me - when I feel depressed > with no outward cause, I check my medicine box , and, sure enough, I have forgotten to take mine a > day or two days ago. Best, Val Well If I decide to take St Johns. with 5HTP, i wont take them together. I am one of those who hates/fearful of taking ANYTHING! LOL these amino acids even scare me, but them seem to really be working for my appetite and depression. Thanks to whoever sent the stuff about aspartame! I'll never drink that POISON again in my life! ive forwarded that to alot of people i know. The only thing I havent been able to give up is my 2 cups of coffee a day. There is absolutley NO comparison between St. John's Wort and the poisionous pharmaceutical SSRI's!! I would like to take issue with all of your preceding statement! I think we should stick with professional guidance when deaing with subjects such as this. Incorrect informration in these areas MAY be very damaging to anyone who has not had any prior experience with natural substances. Dr.Michael T. Murray, N.D,. is one of the top consultants at Bastyr University, is on the booard of directors and I would like to add that I highly value his opinions on the subject. I think we should always consult with natural practitioners before we begin advising others on whether or not to combine natural substances. To confirm the preceding statements I am including a quote from his website to further substantiate the preceding information. His additional knowledge and expertise is backed by years of clinical experience which makes it all the more valuable! ----------------- Dr. Michael T. Murray's quotes - are taken from www.doctormurray.are " Although St. John's wort extract can certainly be effective on its own, in my clinical experience I have found that the combination of St. John's extract (300 mg, 0.3% hypericin content), magnesium (200 to 250 mg), AND 5-HTP (100 mg) three times daily seems to WORK BETTER THAN using any of these three supplements ALONE!. " And he goes on to say.... " Low magnesium levels are common in patients. Magnesium supplementation has produced very good results, part of which may be due to its importance to serotonin function. " " One of the primary benefits with St. John's wort as well as 5-HTP relates to their ability to improve sleep quality. " END OF QUOTE And to you VAL I would just like to say I wish you all the luck in the world, however be warned that you are being deceived by your medical doctor in advising you that st. John's wort is the same or similar to PROZAC!! This is absolutely the most ABSURD statement!! He is covering himself! There is NO comparison between medical pharma's drugs and st. john's wort or any other herb for that matter. They know if everyone ever discovered the real efficacy of herbs, they would be left high and dry! Just be aware that when anyone takes PROZAC it is HELL and HIGH WATER to try and remove it from their system, and they would be lucky if they weren't faced with a multitude of suicidal thoughts before ever succeeding, IF they do! This is the worst travesty of the century and millions are afflicted and the genocide continues!!~ .. Blessings to all! JoAnn Hi JoAnn, I wrote about my doctor telling me that if I didnt want to go on Prozac that I could take SJW. He said it would make me feel the same as a low dose Prozac. He did NOT say it was the same thing as Prozac. I dont know what the confusion is..he was trying to help me and VERY FEW doctors know a damn thing about natural cures so I felt relieved he did know about SJW. In fact he suggested I use that and NOT prozac. Carolyn in Calif

I just happen to be aware of some people who were severely damaged by Prozac and I wouldn't want you to have to go through that too. The side effects are horrendous! That I do know. This statement led me to believe that he was encouraging you to accept Prozac over SJW. Sorry for the misunderstanding. it just looked like a very misleading statement to me. I'm happy you're spared the pain of withdrawal. The best cure is never to begin. :-) ! , Erialicia wrote: > How bout St Johns suppliments? Do they work?
