Guest guest
>>>My 8 month old son has one bowel movement every 2-3 days.<<< My Deana, since no one else responded to this part of your email, I just wanted to assure you that this IS normal for a breastfed baby of that age. If they're going to start doing the once-a-week thing, it'll be around 6wks old, and may last for months~ until they wean or start eating more solids. There is so little waste in breastmilk that it takes longer to build up in the intestines. All my breastfed babies did this too. :-) Jan G. Guest guest
Thank you. He has been eating solids since 4 months old. He currently is mostly breasfed still but has breakfast the same time I do, usually some juice, cherrios, applesauce, something like that. For Lunch he eats the same time I do and usually has vegetables and some pasta or meat or some baby food from the jar although I like to stear clear of them. For a afternoon snack. he usually has some fruit and cheerios . Then for dinner he eats when we do and has whatever we have. Guest guest
It's been 24 years since I was breastfeeding, but I don't remember my son doing this. In fact, I remember him being very regular at every age, and I nursed from Day One to 2.5yo. He didn't have solid food until he was 5mo. Don't know that this means anything, except that all babies are different....<G> Sharyn Jan Gonzalez [jgonz] There is so little waste in breastmilk that it takes longer to build up in the intestines. Guest guest
If he's eating this much regular food, then I *don't* think it's normal for him to only have a BM every 2-3 days. I remember, Deana, when David got into feeding regular food (and keep in mind he's 24yo now, so my memory may be spotty<G>), the only " baby food " I bought in jars was fruit, since it was processed and the Vitamin C was put back in. (I know....still not the best, but it worked for us at the time. He did get lots of fresh fruit also.) I kept those jars and when we ate I'd just puree the leftovers, stick them in the jars, and freeze them. Voila! Baby food for another meal. Also, once a week I'd make veggies, such as sweet potatoes/apple combo, peas, etc. and puree them and use the jars for them. We had a freezer full of home-made baby food in jars that originally had just held fruit. Cheap and nutritious. Oh, and his favorite breakfast at that age was mashed up avocado/banana mix. Also cheap and nutritious....and if you don't mash it up too much he can eat it by himself with his fingers. Guest guest
My son always had one bowel movement a day from a couple weeks on. Now that he is 2.5yrs he is starting to have 1-3 a day. My dd is random at 10.5 mo- she might have 1-3 or 4 a day. My son was almost exclusively breastfed for 11.5mo (tastes here and there from 8.5mo) my daughter was exclusively breastfed for almost 10mo and still doesn't really eat anything, just tastes here and there). My diet improved between them- I have become vegetarian a couple months ago and my daughter started having more bowel movements about the same time. I also eat lots of fresh fruits and veggies and little processed. I don't know if this makes a difference because I do know that LLL says 1time a week as long as it isn't difficult is ok for breastfed babies... but we also know how the medical community feels about adults.
