NOW is generally a good brand, so when I saw their powdered nutritional

yeast for sale in my co-op catalog at a good price, I orderred quite a bit.

I've been using it for about 6 months now.

Previously, all nutritional yeast I've used is a yellow color. I was

puzzled that this was a brownish-yellow color. Also it seems to taste

different, when I use it in things other than T.N.

Still, I ignored all this until I read that some nutritional yeast has been

treated in a damaging way, and that you can tell by the brownish color

instead of yellow.

Does anyone know about this? I only read it in the one source, and don't

know how reliable it is.

Thanks!

Tyrie,

Do you have a name attached to this co-op or an email address for the yeast that you purchased?

Tyrie,

I have never seen brown Nutritional Yeast in our office. All of the

nutritional yeast that Doc uses is very yellow. And to give you an idea of

how much we use you can fill a large living room bottom to top and you'd get

an idea of the amounts that come through our office. So brown nutrtional

yeast sounds scary.

BUT... think about this: Nutritional yeast is grown on molasses. This could

be the stuff very close to the molasses rather than near the top. So that

could also explain the taste as well. Don't quote me on that though, cause

I truly don't know as I've never personally run into the problem. But if

the taste is the molasses then maybe it could be right... ok.
