I just had a flashback of when I was pregnant; I got tested for gestational diabetes because there'd be days I'd get so shaky and weak I could barely stand up. That was a time in my life that I ate the healthiest I'd ever eaten, my diet was mostly fruits and vegetables and lots and lots of beans (always craved beans). I wonder if my "problem" wasn't lack of sugar. Interesting! I'd think the shakes meant I needed to eat something and I'd go eat an orange or banana or something and still be shaky so that wasn't it!

How long do sugar withdrawals usually last?

I'll find out soon enough when I start the cleanse, but would like some advanced warning! : )

Besides TN, is there anything you'd recommend for a nice energy boost while this is going on? The last time I tried cutting out sugar I took an afternoon "nap" that ended up being over 3 hours of slumber (more like a 3 hour coma, I didn't move an inch) making me late for work. I made it through 3 hours at work feeling like I was going to die (my coworker asked me a couple times if I was okay) and I finally dragged myself to the vending machine. Instant relief! Shame on me, I know!

Take a lot of vitamin C, Calcium and Magnesium, that will help sugar withdrawal (that also helps smokers withdraw) or Lobelia. Yes it is a drug and absolutely can cause the shakes.

When I knock sugar out of my diet I feel absolutely horrible! The first day! I compare the feeling to trying to quit smoking only WORSE! I feel so down and depressed and just want to sleep the day away..... and my MOOD! Oh boy do I get cranky and it's hard to get me cranky. I even got shaky, not sure lack of sugar can do that, but something did! I've tried eating lots of fruit, to get natural sugars and apparently that's just not gonna cut it. : )

So far I've always given in. Haven't read sugar blues yet, getting to it!

Herbal Remedies - Re: Sugar craving remedy?

I am a sugar junky (or was)! I understand and I lost 50 pounds. Sugar substitutes contribute to the cravings, which surprised me. Her problem isn't the need of a substitute. Her body isn't functioning properly. I would be happy to tell you how I "step down" from the sugar and deal with the cravings. But, I'll tell you that unless a person understands the connection between the bodily functions and diet, exercise for body regulation, and cleansing and then makes changes, that the craving cycle will probably continue. Depending upon how overweight she is, she may also have a yeast problem (systemic) and that yeast contributes to the cravings - it wants to be fed ... sugar! To answer your question directly, agave nectar (cactus nectar) is more complex and looks and tastes similar to honey. I bake with it. It is sugar, it has calories, and most likely won't solve her problem but it is a healthier sugar. I also use teas like lemon/ginger or peppermint to satisfy me.For me, I also found that wanting to lose weight alone wasn't enough, but when I choose food based on improving health that I make tremendous progress.herbal remedies , "C.
