Guest guest
Could anyone who has experience in withdrawing from klonapin share their story? My son is on risperdal, lithium and lamictal and klonapin AND a orthomolecular program. He was taking klonapin every day and is now down to twice a week. It is hard to know what is causing what. As the nutrients take effect, he needs less sedation. Could the depression he is feeling, aggressive thoughts, blunted affect, loss of interest intings that once gave pleasure, etc be the result of beginning to take less klonapin? And/ or being over medicated on risperdal? Any thoughts?
Guest guest
Your son is polydrugged on very powerful medication. Singularly, each one of these drugs can have a plethora of side effects....together, it is impossible to differentiate what drug-induced symptoms or illnesses are stemming from what drug. I was prescribed a benzodiazepine like klonopin for grief after my father died years ago. I became quite ill on the drug, suffering through many mysterious illnesses...the symptoms of which did not add up to any disease or illness. I did not realize that I had developed tolerance and toxicity to the drug and it was manifesting in these ailments. This class of drugs, the benzodiazpines, called minor tranquillizers, are quite addictive and can actually cause drug-induced mental and physical illnesses. They should be tapered slowly and I would recommend www.benzo.org.uk to you for further information. You ask whether your son could be overmedicated on risperdal and my thoughts on this is that any amount of this drug is too much. It is an atypical antipsychotic which can cause many problems, some being permanent in nature. Since you are looking toward an orthomolecular way of treatment, I would advise you to educate yourself as much as possible about psychiatric drugs. There are two books written by Dr. Peter Breggin that I have found to be most helpful...they are Your Drug May Be Your Problem and Toxic Psychiatry.
