My son has had encopresis from birth he does not get the message when

to poo, I was told it was from constipation but he has had mainly a

raw food diet as he didnt like cooked food, he ate alot of fruit and a

few veg wholemeal pasta and rice he is vegetarian he does have

lentils and tofu with the rice or pasta, he has been a very fussy

eater but ate quite a healthy diet so I dont understand why. He had an

abdominal xray showing a stretched rectum with the valve sitting open

where poo sits at the anus ready to come out at any time, he would

have soiling most days. That was a year ago. I took him to see a

paedeatrition and she put him on Movicol a stool softer which brings

water from the body into his poo, he was to be on it for up to a year

then to wean off which I have. He is now 9 and his problem has

improved in that he doesnt soil as he sits on the toilet after every

meal but only sometimes gets the urge to poo, has anyone come across

this problem, and have any suggestions.

my son has this.  he's three going on four.  the paed we are seeing next month will likely prescribe same treatment.  im looking for a better solution.  have you looked into bile suppliments, enzyme suppliments, or castor oil massage?

This sounds more like a neurological problem. The urge to poo or not to, has to do with the nerves. There are a few asana's and pranayama's that may work in this case: kapalbhati, anulom vilom, utkatasan. Also heard some positive things about the medicine Solesta and Kegel exercises.

Oil, spicy, junk and fast foods should be avoided. Also stay away from alcohol, tea and coffee. Don't consume too much chocolate and sugars. Keep drinking lots of water!

Hope this helps.
