Guest guest
Hi everybody, I recently joined this group because my mother has lung cancer and the chemo treatment she received has caused her kidney failure grade IV. I am looking for info on ways to treat the Chronic Renal Failure (or at least preventing it from getting worse so quickly) other than just waiting for dialisys. I have read about many herbs that are good for kidney function, but my doubts are always the same: kidney failure can be due to many different causes, and I know that not all remedies are good for all types of kidney failure so I am afraid to try anything that I don't know that is specially indicated for such cases: Kidney failure caused by chemotherapy (cisplatin and Avastin (bevacizumab)). She is currently taking two drugs for the high blood pressure caused by the kidney failure: amlodipino (to remove calcium from the arteries) and furosemide (a diuretic). Any of you has any advice on this?. Thanks in advance! Kasturbai Barcelona, Spain
Guest guest
Dear Kasturbai, I am so sorry that your mother is gravely ill. My thoughts of healing energy go out to you both. Some high blood pressure medications do help the kidneys by reducing the inflammation of the circulatory system in the kidneys... I am not aware and maybe someone here will be able to provide some suggestions on supplements. There are specific diets which help reduce the stress on the kidneys. Given the fact that your mother is going through such a traumatic time & the medications are needed, it is probably difficult for her to feel like eating anything. Just off the tip of my wee brain, certain foods high in phosphorous I think, like milk, cheeses, are NOT good ... do a google search for renal diet etc and you will find info on the types of foods which do not place additional stress on the kidneys. Keeping you and your family close to my heart. Hazel in Kansas
Guest guest
Hi Hazel, Thanks a lot for your answer and your concern. Actually my mother is feeling quite good and eating a lot. Her oncologist did mention to her that she should eat low protein and low potasium but then she went to the nephrologist, who said the low protein thing was not really so important (¿?) and that her electrolites (calcium, potassium, phosporus, magnesium) were in good numbers and well balanced, so not to worry about that, either. This doctor does not seem to want to do anything, I don't know if she simply is waiting for my mother to die of the cancer or just waiting for the time to put her in dialysis, either way, I don't know like this. Anyway, my mother is also being treated by a pneumologist (lung doctor) who has put her on a therapeutical diet. She is taking aminoacid pills and eating very little protein (the aminoacid pills are supposed to keep her well nurtured with hardly any metabolic residues, unlike normal diet protein), besides other thinks to keep the cancer in check and strangthen the inmune system. I'll go on looking for info on any other possible things she may eat to help the kidneys. I read once a study on CoQ10 helping damaged kidney tissue regenerate in mice, but I'm unsure to try it just like that... Right now I'm accumulating info to ask this lung doctor about. Thanks again and best wishes, Kasturbai Barcelona, Spain , " ksxroads " <hazel.stitt wrote: > > Dear Kasturbai, > > I am so sorry that your mother is gravely ill.
