Guest guest
Hi, I was researching a means to test the purity of fish oil supplements. Allegedly one should try freezing the capsules for 3 hours as a quality test. If they freeze completely they are very low quality.......if they freeze partially, they have impurities in them. The highest quality Omega 3s would stay liquid. Any opinions about this? Thanks. Guest guest
Never heard this, yet there is a lot I do not know. However, I have read if you have problems with after affects ie burping etc from tatking fish oil supplements, to freeze them and they should pass through the stomach into the intestines before melting reducing after affects. Guest guest
The most important thing is to make sure that the fish oil is free of PCB and Mercury. The only product I know that is free form PCB & Mercury is Cod Liver Oil from Kirkman <http://www.kirkmanlabs.com/products/vitamins/codliver/Cod_Liver_Oil_L_8\ _Spec026.html> . Guest guest
A chemist friend told me that only molecularly distilled fish oil is safe from heavy metals. Guest guest
This doesn't really work for a normal freezer, the capsule will become liquid almost immediately upon removal from freezer!! I know, because that's where I keep the capsules. What works is taking the pills either at night before going to bed with a glass of water or taking a few minutes before taking a large meal! I do that with liquid Cod liver oil! Hazel Stitt wrote: > > Never heard this, yet there is a lot I do not know. Guest guest
I suppose it figures really re the purity of the oil as fish themselves don't freeze do they! Guest guest
I have read that healthy (omega-3 rich) fish oil is only obtained from the blue fish living in the coldest waters, as these fatty acids have a powerful " antifreezing " effect, which is why these fish have become rich in it in the first place. So not all blue fish have the same amounts (or quality?) of omega3 in their oil. For instance, tuna species living in warmer seas are supposed to be very poor in it, or lacking it altogether (also farm fish if they have not been fed with a source of omega-3). Therefore, it seems to make sense that this freezing test would indicate how rich that particular fish oil is in Omega-3, but you still would not know if it's polluted with mercury, etc... Guest guest
I was told to open the capsule into a shot glass and put it in the freezer... Guest guest
What I know is that all the oil supplements should be treated like virgin oils, cool, no light. I also know that fish oils should be taken with food containing fat to be digested properly. I recently got a pendulum and taught myself how to dowze. What I do now is check everything I am about to swallow with the pendulum whether it is good for my body or not, and it does work.
