Guest guest
I'm also interested in herbal medicine. Can you suggest a suitable book/encyclopedia about that subject for me? The School of Natural Healing by Dr. John Christopher is definitely the best, most comprehensive book I've ever read on herbal healing. It may be a bit hard to find these days, but it's worth hunting around for. Gloria
Guest guest
Hello all, I'm new here. Being an orthomolecular, medical doctor (prescribing nutritional supplements in Europe), I'm also interested in herbal medicine. Can you suggest a suitable book/encyclopedia about that subject for me? Of course, I can find a lot of information on the website, for which I want to congratulate the owner and all the contributing members. But for daily practice, a book is just more practical, isn't it? Thank you and best wishes! Jongeus

Hi Jongeus, That depends on your personal nature and the speed of your internet connection. I've found that the best method for me was to take a class on herbalism taught by a professional herbalist who does assessment based on Taoist theory. When the quality of the herb is clear to me compaired to the energetic etiology of a person's adventure then I am no longer limited to treating just the symptoms of the disorder. The class I take is very much " hands on " with both the theory, the herbs and the people. But, as you are a dr., I can understand you not having the luxury of time to educate yourself of herbs this way. Henriette Kress is an herbalist from Finland. She has a very informative website <http://www.ibiblio.org/herbmed/index.html> where she speaks not only of her favorite books but also provides many good links to other informative herbal websites. Guest guest
I wanted to throw one out. A suggestion that is. Herbally Yours by Penny Royal (ok, I am sure it is a psuedonym) is a wonderful starter book. It has a chapter with illnesses and the herbs used to treat them, a chapter that has the herbs and what they treat, and then some other chapters with pregnancy, common compounds etc. basic ways to make infusions, tinctures, compresses etc. It is just a starter book, and really designed for the beginer, but it is the best fast referance book I have found. It is no longer in print, but amazon almost always has several for sale by individual sellers for around a buck.
