Guest guest
I have a friend who has a daughter--a little one, who was born with Dandy walker. She has a shunt to drain water from her brain. The baby girl is still having seizures after three years of every drug known to man to stop seizures, with the exception of natural remedies. She has been on Atkins (I know, eeeww, but they were trying to stop the brain activity in part of her brain). Just last week the baby girl has begun on a heavy duty barbituate which will, likely as not, kill her. Anyone got any ideas? The next step, when they see this drug doesn't work, is to evaluate her to possibly remove the part of the brain causing the seizures. This is not a viable solution if the child, as we suspect, has seizures in all parts of her brain. Doc, would you dare to touch this? Anyone? Flo It matters not... Guest guest
Are these epileptic episodes? If this is so, my previous message re the DVD ‘First Do No Harm’ will be of help to your friend. It gives details of a hospital based programme, which uses diet not drugs to treat epilepsy. It is a true story of a mother’s search to prevent powerful drugs being used on her 7 year old son. At the end of the DVD there is information with a hospital help line for further information. The named hospital is in the USA; the programme takes 2 years, however, although this may improve the little girl’s life; she will still need attention to her drains to keep them clear. These drains MUST NOT be left unattended because it will cause further pressure on her brain if they become blocked. All that can be done is to have the assessment by the hospital concerned; should the child be accepted onto the VERY strict programme both child and parent will be closely monitored. My prayers go with you in helping this lady deal with a very difficult problem. Guest guest
Marion, this movie is about the ketogenic diet (atkins like thing)...Hannah, the baby girl, was on the ketogenic diet and it didn't change anything for her. Thank you for trying, though. Flo - Marion Ghosh Are these epileptic episodes? If this is so, my previous message re the DVD ‘First Do No Harm’ will be of help to your friend.
