Guest guest
Agreed! If you ever walk into a modeling agency with your hubby or boyfriends do not be surprised to find that he has some form of attention deficit, LOL, so funny, to label this as a disorder to be cured using drugs, of all things. Have you ever watched a movie all the way through? Then you’re cured. If you don’t understand something people find it hard to concentrate on it as well. So get someone to help you understand it and you’ll find you have gobs of attention for it. This is life. I have “Got to pee 3-6 times a day disorder”. Now to put this in perspective, the same people labeling ADD have come up with some kind of “Garlic” disorder; not physical but mental, like vampires not being able to be around garlic. Guest guest
I don't know - I would have to disagree with some of you. Although I agree that ADD is overprescribed, I do believe it is in fact a real disorder. As a teacher, I have an ADD student - and his behavior is considerably different when he is on his medication and when he is not. When he is not, he is off the walls, cannot stay on task on the current subject or topic, etc. However when he is on medication, he acts very much like the rest of his classmates. He either doesn't understand the words being used or some other study problem, OR he's very bright and needs bigger challenges, or he's high on sugar -- or some other dietary problem. There's no medical proof of chemical imbalances in the brain. They do no tests, they just freely label. Guest guest
Carole, you act as if you know this child personally! As a professional teacher, we team up with learning SPECIALISTS and many others as well as with their parents to determine the cause. No child, at least in my classroom, is ever just " labeled " and given drugs to calm them. We know the difference between being too bright and needing to be challanged and/or not understanding the subject at hand. The problem is, he DOES have ADD - he very well understands what he is supposed to do, but he gets side tracked easily. Much work goes into deciding if work is too hard/too easy, etc. In the school system, at least in FL - children are required an IEP (Individual Educational Plan) - where their problems are addressed, and solutions are tried. Much goes into a childs education before we believe it to be some medical issue. If you happen to be in a school system where they freely label kids as ADD/HAD, without going through a series of varied tests then GET OUT NOW. Guest guest
Shame on you for making this a personal attack on my teaching skills without even stepping foot into my classroom. Also, you can not make a judgement on a child you do not even know. It is as simple as that. I am sorry that your own experiences in the public schools has been horrific. However I was taught with new methods that engage in student learning, using fun - humor and hands on activities. He tells me he enjoys the class - however as a medical condition, his mind wanders. As for watching a movie the whole way through, that is something you're going to have to ask his mother. Guest guest
Okay people. I don't mind this discussion, but can we please keep it civilized without any personal attacks or make-wrongs? Otherwise I really am going to have to stop this thread. We all have our own realities, experiences and opinions, but I think we also agree that we are all here to learn about natural healing. Let's keep that in mind when communicating to each other and to the group in general. Guest guest
I have always said that the public school system was created by women and for women! *wink* To ask a bright, energetic, creative little boy to "sit still and listen to me praddle on, as your teacher" or asking a creative little boy to fill in the blanks on multiple answer sheets, is asking for the moon! *grin* Boys and school don't mix well. That is why homeschooling is always an option, in the back of my head, for my boys. But that is off topic! *grin* IMO!!! *smile*

Guest guest
I taught school in private and public. What I did not like about the public school I taught at is there were tons of worksheets. ( No creativity) Many of these kids were on meds. ( I taught behavior kids) Some slept through the class. Homeschooling is great if one parent does not have to work. I have seen some kids do great once they were homeschooled. - Karen Clark herbal remedies Tuesday, May 17, 2005 8:51 AM Re: Herbal Remedies - male adult ADD I have always said that the public school system was created by women and for women! *smile*Federal Law requires that we warn you of the following: 1. Guest guest
I am not attacking your teaching skills. I do not know you. In my lifetime I have been in 10 different public schools in different states. I've been around. I have had some teachers that did the best with what they had, I also had teachers that sexually harassed students. The fact that you are even here signifies to me that you are one of those teachers that think outside the box. I'm sure you know some who do not. I do not know the child, but I was that child. I was so bored in school that I once shoved a popcorn kernel in my ear. I am considered an " ADD " case. My son would be labeled " ADHD " if I would let him near a mass-schooling environment. We have methods that do not involve prescriptions. They work better than those that do and we have the added benefit of no chromosome damage (long-term Ritalin use has been linked to this). You mentioned that when drugged, he acts like your other students. I've seen many " other students " . Is that supposed to be a good thing? -Shelby herbal remedies [herbal remedies ]On Behalf Of Allison Delello Tuesday, May 17, 2005 3:45 AM herbal remedies Re: Herbal Remedies - male adult ADD Shame on you for making this a personal attack on my teaching skills without even stepping foot into my classroom. Guest guest
ADD is supposed to mean the person has a chemical imbalance of the brain which must be corrected by a narcotic in the same classification as cocaine. This is a scam, and there’s no reason to discuss it, just search for proof. Drugging children is a dangerous and potentially deadly activity. It has ruined millions of lives and actually killed many kids. The word “specialist” means nothing to me. I started to live a higher quality life when I stopped assuming that “specialists” and “authorities” who learn what they learn from other “specialists” and “authorities” know what they’re talking about. Before you feel the need to moderate me, perhaps single out what portion of the text below you consider ‘slandering’. I feel my words are not as harsh as what I have read from others. Guest guest
ADD is the disease of USA "inventors." It is invented by USA doctors. How come there is no ADD in some other countries in the rest of the world? I am coming from the small country in Europe and I was teacher there. I would be warried for students who didn't have your ADD sindrom. They would be considered as student wit less interest in school activities, and we would always talk with parents how to get them more involved and more alive in the clasroom. Guest guest
I do not see Jeff as personally attacking anyone. And where were you, Lisa - when my teaching was slandered from someone who has never set foot in one of my classrooms? If you want everyone to be civil - please do not attack specific people and let the rest say and/or do as they please. That is unfair. I joined this group to find more holistic approaches, not to have people constantly slander eachother over something NO ONE really knows. There will be scientific proof for both sides, so leave it at that - and instead learn to help each other towards a common goal - becoming healthy, a natural way. Thanks.
