The estimated risk of complications are only 1 in 1,000 to 1 in 2,000 cases. These complications involve rare skin rashes, large fluctuations in blood pressure, arrhythmias, and difficulty breathing or asthma-like reactions. These, and any additional risks that may apply specifically to you, will be explained to you by your doctor and the nurse performing the test. Radiation exposure to radiotracers can be a concern for the nuclear staff, but not for patients undergoing an occasional nuclear imaging test. Guest guest
Hello Everyone, According to my personal experience. Have had 2 tests. First one had difficulty obtaing information. However, they had to disclose the following upon my adament demand. "HOW MUCH RADIATION ARE YOU GOING TO ADMINISTER". Finally told 42 milli Curies. Two administrrations - one of 30 - second of 12 Mililicuries. I then asked what is the Federal guidelines for Maximum Millicuries. Finally told 100 PER YEAR. Was told the amount of 42 is less than OTHER MEDICAL test.Therefor it is Safe.! I then asked "when are you going to ask me (or Doctor who order test)How many millicuries I had for the Year prior?...She was MUTE. I then asked "when are you going to tell me I had the 42 mc and I had to advise future Health care practioners....She was MUTE. When I called Dr. office His assistant asked me why i would not take Thalium.Started to answer Her as above...She Hung me up. ALSO, Testing company Provides equipment for test in the DR. Office. As such Dr. receives normal insurance fee for the test. ALSO Dr. receives Fee for providing Premises for test.He pays testing company and pockets the Difference.Dr. performs many tests on a given day.He has both hands out.... I Insisted and was subsequently given the "OLD FASHIONED" stress test with NO NUCLEAR.Dr didnt want to do it but He had to to fill His own order.Went to Hospital used their equipment. He received much Less $ and had to spend a lot more time including travel time. Reason for my test:Pain in chest.Final answer."Chronic Bronchits". I have personal friends who are in the Modern medical field who strongly Suggested I take the Nuclear Test. When I told them of my experience they where astounded. They never thought of it. One is a Therapist who was shocked and replied "they never ask". Another non medical friend had the test 3 TIMES and was NEVER asked or Told about Radiation. The second time Had the test,Different MD,With No hesitation I said "NO THALIUM". No problem. I asked New Cardio Doc His opinion between Nuclear and OLD FASHIONED test results. I did not tell Him of my first test. He said there is NO Difference. It is up to the MD and MD Expertise in reading the results. His specialty was the "Old fashioned" way. Again told pain either due to muscle strain and or Chronic Bronchitus. "There is Nothing wrong with my heart" They Do not advise patient prior to the Day of test of any Side affects. If patient does not ask - patient does not get. There are some Very Serious Side affects Possible. I learned a LOT. I saved my body from receiving some very serious Radiation. This is an absolute true life experience.
