These are quotes from an interview I did on why I refuse to continue practicing. The actual interview is much more thorough than this. Guest guest
Why I stay in Nursing - is to offer an alternative to mainstream medicine and support to all the patients I visit - if they are open to the possibility that they are being poisoned by what their Drs prescribe. I offer information and support. One patient has stopped her meds since I visited her for a month earlier in the year. She now no longer feels ill and no longer shakes uncontrollably. She is very happy about this. Only one patient - yes - but remember the man who threw the beached starfish back in the sea one by one? Guest guest
Edith they all really matter - but some are too frightened to take the first step away from their Drs. I can often tell the patient what medications they're on by their presenting symptoms - despite that, they are too frightened to stop taking them - but at least I give them the opportunity. Examples? Severe lower leg rashes - Karvea/Ibersartan - (anti-hypertensive) - Severe breathlessness - glaucoma eye-drops - Bloating and unbearable muscle & joint pain - statins etc etc - why would the patient associate these symptoms with unrelated drugs? They couldn't know. It is interesting to see what a tangle these Drs manage to get their patients in. Morning of surgery I expressed horror as a student nurse that an 84 year old woman was sitting waiting nervously for her mastectomy - I told her she still had CHOICE she did NOT have to have this done to her. Her response? "Oh I can't let the Dr down dear". A young woman had opted for an apronectomy (1979) - removal of excessive fat from the abdomen - surgery over - the plastics guy started sewing her up like a piece of meat - he started one side and had his student start the other side - the result was appalling. I said "You CAN'T leave her like that it looks terrible!" He didn't look at me - he said "She's right you know - come on lets do it again" He did a neat job. I thought the charge nurse was going to stroke out - a student nurse telling God how to sew???
