Guest guest
As regarding 'evil qi', I think it is much more interesting and profound than narrow moralistic retribution. I think about yin and yang. Look at clear yang or pure yang for example(oversimplified); generated by pre and post heaven qi, it 'leaves' the full yuan qi passages and flows thru the spinal channels to enter the brain and sensory orifices(and the touch receptors). This yang is so pure it is clear-without excess heat-, clear-as it allows the world to be percieved as it is, by our clear orifices. If when the perceptions of our world is colored by conditional or strategic fantasies of fear, anger, sorrow, guilt, revenge, hate, helplessness, sado-masichism, compulsion, desire etc. etc., then the door to disease is present and ready to manifest. In other words, the pure perceptions of the world get muddied and twisted by our inflexible incorrect emotional states. This is culturally independent, religiously irrelevant. We had a discussion of 'shu xie' liver function on another list a little while ago, and the linguists had no definite interpretation of the term. A chinese taoist medical teacher of mine (I don't speak or read chinese well yet) explained what he thought shu xie to be so we could understand both healthy liver qi and emotional balance. He said it was like this; in the early morning on a spring day, a mist is rising off the little brook and vegetation, and the sun is just coming thru the trees. A willow hangs over the stream and some of its branches are being gently tugged along with the current. Naturally we exist where we are, and naturally little things pull us along, but the sun is coming thru, more beauty is imminent. Is it good to be alive? Not always. Why. fear, sorrow, etc etc. We all know stress strengthens disease states and is the main causative factor in many diseases/imbalances because it consumes the yuan qi and stagnates the qi/blood/breath. It fills the body with toxins and tension. Stress is what modern society runs on. Too bad. But, that is only the internal reaction. The external evil qi, the six evils, are real because they can cause very insidious imbalances also, even in the most healthy body/mind. Shamanistically it was like they had life of their own and had intent, as they were needed to bring life forward and strengthen the body and discipline the mind, but were overly cruel at times.
